With extreme heat, the so-called junction temperature inside the LED chip rises. Thermal management in industrial LED fixtures revolves around removing heat from the LED chip as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is achieved through a combination of material selection, construction, and sometimes active cooling. The goal is always the same: keeping the junction temperature of the chip below a safe limit.<\/p>\n

The most commonly used approach is passive cooling via a heat conductor or heatsink made of aluminum or copper. These materials quickly conduct heat away from the light source to the outside of the fixture, where the heat can dissipate.
