Lighting for the mobile crane

From work lamp to a complete tilting system

The same lighting that crane manufacturers install from the factory, now directly available. For new cranes and as a retrofit on your existing fleet. Designed and built by the specialist Mammoet trusted for one of the first LTM 1650-8.1s in the world.

Why lighting on a mobile crane is a specialized field

A mobile crane is located somewhere different every week: today an urban lifting job next to residential buildings, tomorrow a nighttime assembly along the highway. The lighting needs to adapt to this, literally. These are the four problems we solve daily:

  • Pruning and topping A permanently mounted light points in different directions at every boom angle. The result: an operator climbing to adjust it, or a work zone that's half dark.
  • Glare and surroundings: When elevated, a misdirected light fixture can shine into a residential area or roadway. You are liable for the nuisance caused by your crane.
  • Power Supply onboard power (12/24V DC) or construction power (230/400V AC). The lighting must match what is available, without detours.
  • Vibrations, weather, and transport: What's on a mobile crane takes a beating. An IP69K rating and high impact resistance (IK08 or higher) are not luxuries but requirements.

The Crane Light Director: The complete lighting system — formerly only ex-factory

Crane builders such as Liebherr en Grove Their top models come from the factory with controlled boom lighting: tiltable fixtures that the operator controls from the cab. Until recently, anyone who wanted such a system could only order it from the crane manufacturer at the time of purchase, under OEM terms.

That has changed. JEL Products now supplies the complete system on its own: the Crane Light Director.
For new cranes and as a retrofit for the fleet you already have. The system consists of:

  • Tilting luminaire modules — in all shapes and sizes: single, dual, or T-bar configurations, with market-leading, energy-efficient work lights or DarkLicht full-cut-off fixtures where glare control is required;
  • Crane Light Stabilizer — the automatic stabilization bracket that automatically keeps the light beam pointed at the work zone when raising and lowering;
  • Central driver box — suitable for on-board and construction power, robustly housed and prepared for expansion;
  • Cabin control — tilting and switching without climbing, just from the driver's seat.

Installation is done by us, or your own workshop: each system comes with a mounting kit and clear documentation.
This is how you maintain control over your own maintenance.

Equipped here with one Marlin DC - 16,900lm
Equipped here with two Piranha units—16,800 lm

Three levels - you don't have to choose the whole system right away

Level 1

Work lights & floodlights

Loose LED work lights and floodlights to replace your existing fixtures. 1-to-1 exchange, immediate efficiency gain.

For whom: Quick results without any modifications to the crane. For example, the Piranha (70 W / 8,400 lm), which Mammoet used to replace the factory-installed lighting.

Crane Light Stabilizer - Barracuda, including driver
Level 2

Kantelframe + Crane Light Stabilizer

Tilting luminaire modules with the automatic stabilization bracket: the light beam remains automatically focused on the work area during lifting and lowering.

For whom: larger cranes with many tops — the operator always has a light on his hook thanks to automatic stabilization.

Level 3

Crane Light Director — complete system

The complete system: tilting modules, central control box, and control from the cabin. Off-factory comfort, as a retrofit.

For whom: Floor owners who want OEM functionality on cranes that don't have it from the factory — or want it better than from the factory.

Are you unsure which level is right for your commitment? One conversation with an engineer is enough: we will calculate what your crane, your jobs, and your power supply require and will also honestly advise when level 1 is simply sufficient.

Mammoet replaced the factory-installed lighting on one of the first LTM 1650-8.1s in the world.

When Mammoet took delivery of one of the world’s first Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1s, it came equipped with factory-installed lighting. That lighting was removed. Mammoet chose to replace the factory lighting immediately with JEL fixtures: our Piranha work lights provide 8,400 lumens at just 70 watts, 30% more efficient than what the factory fitted.

When one of the world's largest crane rental companies replaces the factory-installed lighting on its latest flagship with ours, that says more than any specification.

Frequently Asked Questions about Crane Lighting and the Crane Light Director

Yes. The system is designed to be brand-independent and is configured per crane type. We supplied it for Liebherr, Grove, Tadano, and Demag cranes, among others.

Yes. You will receive the system with a mounting kit and documentation. Prefer to outsource? Our technicians will install it, either here or at your location.

Both are possible. The driver box is configured for your situation: 12/24V DC from the vehicle's onboard electrical system or 230/400V AC construction power.

The stabilization bracket automatically compensates for the boom angle. This means the light beam remains focused on the work zone when raising or lowering the boom, without anyone needing to make adjustments.

Yes, that is the core of the Crane Light Director: tilting and switching from the seat, without climbing.

With DarkLicht full-cut-off fixtures and precise lighting control. Where necessary, we support this with a lighting calculation and report, in accordance with the NSVV Code of Conduct.

Five-year industrial warranty, also for heavy daily use.

That depends on the tap type and configuration. Ask for advice: you will receive a response from an engineer within one business day, including an indication of price and delivery time.

Built for daily professional use

The Crane Light Director was developed in collaboration with the market, so we know what's going on. As a professional solution for intensive daily use on mobile cranes and other equipment. It's not just about light output, but about the combination of solid construction, professional finish, and a form factor that remains widely applicable in diverse work environments.

The right optics ensure light in the right place

Our Crane Light Directors are not only chosen based on power or lumens, but primarily based on the correct light pattern in the right place. Thanks to multiple optics, the fixture can be adapted to the mounting position, working distance, and desired spread, ensuring the work lamp fits the application better in practice.
