Lighting for the mobile crane that moves with the boom.

The same guided boom lighting that crane manufacturers install at the factory is now available directly. For new cranes and as a retrofit for your existing fleet. With this, Mammoet replaced the factory lighting on one of the first LTM 1650-8.1s in the world.

The issue

Why lighting on a mobile crane is a specialized field

A mobile crane is in a different location every week: today an inner-city hoisting job next to residences, tomorrow a nighttime installation along the highway. The lighting literally has to move along with it. These are the four problems we solve every day. They occur on every crane type; an overview per machine can be found on our page about crane lighting.

Topping Up and Topping Off

A fixed-mounted lamp points in a different direction at every boom angle. Consequence: an operator who has to climb to adjust it, or a work zone that remains half dark.

Blinding glare

A poorly aimed light fixture high up is shining into a residential area or roadway. You are liable for the nuisance caused by your crane.

Power Supply

12- or 24-volt DC onboard power, or 230- and 400-volt construction site power. The lighting adapts to whatever power source is available, without any complications.

Vibration and Transportation

Anything mounted on a mobile crane is bound to take a beating. IP69K and an impact resistance rating of IK08 or higher aren’t luxuries—they’re a necessity.

The system

The Crane Light Director: Previously available only as factory-installed, now available as a retrofit

Crane manufacturers such as Liebherr and Grove deliver their top-of-the-line models ex-factory with controlled boom lighting: tiltable fixtures that the operator controls from the cab. Until recently, such a system could only be ordered directly from the crane manufacturer at the time of purchase and under OEM terms. That has changed.

Tilting luminaire modules

Single, double, or T-bar. With efficient work lights, or with DarkLicht Full-cut-off luminaires where glare control is required.

Crane Light Stabilizer

The automatic stabilization bracket compensates for the boom angle and automatically keeps the light beam focused on the work area during raising and lowering operations.

Central driver box

Suitable for vehicle electrical systems and construction site power, housed in a rugged enclosure, and designed for expansion with additional modules.

Cabin control

Tilt and shift from the operator's seat, via a LoRa controller or a cab switch. No one has to climb up.

We can handle the installation, or you can do it at your own workshop. Each system comes with an installation kit and documentation, so you can manage your own maintenance.

Choice

Three levels—you don't have to choose the entire system right away

DCbright and JEL Products LED work lights side by side
Level 1

Work Lights and Floodlights

Individual LED work lights to replace your existing fixtures. A one-to-one replacement that delivers immediate efficiency gains.

For whom

Fast results without crane modifications. Like the Piranha with which Mammoet replaced the factory-installed lighting.

Level 2

Tilting Frame with Stabilizer

Tiltable modules with the automatic stabilization bracket. The beam remains automatically aimed when topping and lopping.

For whom

Larger cranes that frequently lift heavy loads. The crane operator always keeps the load lightly on the hook.

Adjustable boom bracket with two small LED floodlights
Level 3

Crane Light Director

The complete system: tiltable modules, central control, and operation from the cab. Factory-installed comfort, available as a retrofit.

For whom

Fleet owners who want OEM functionality on cranes that don't come with it from the factory, or who want something better than what comes standard.

Not sure which level is right for your application? One conversation with an engineer is all it takes. We’ll calculate the requirements for your crane, your jobs, and your power supply, and let you know when Level 1 is sufficient.

Evidence

Mammoet replaced the factory-installed lighting on one of the world’s first LTM 1650-8.1s

When Mammoet took delivery of the crane, it was equipped with factory lighting. That was removed. Our Piranha The work lights deliver 8,400 lumens at 70 watts, which is 30 percent more efficient than the factory-installed lights.

When one of the world’s largest crane rental companies replaces the factory lighting on its newest flagship with ours, that speaks louder than any specification.

The right optics put the light in the right place

A Crane Light Director is not chosen on power alone, but on the light pattern that the job requires. Four optics, to be tailored to mounting position, working distance and desired spread.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about crane lighting

Is your question not listed? Call Lucas de Graaf directly.

Yes. The system is designed to be brand-independent and is configured per crane type. Among others, we have supplied systems for Liebherr, Grove, Tadano, and Demag.

Yes. You will receive the system with a mounting kit and documentation. Prefer to outsource? Our technicians will install it, either here or at your location.

Both. The driver box is configured for your situation: 12 or 24 volts direct current from the vehicle's electrical system, or 230 and 400 volts alternating current temporary site power.

The stabilization bracket automatically compensates for the boom angle. This means the light beam remains focused on the work zone when raising or lowering the boom, without anyone needing to make adjustments.

Yes, that is the core of the Crane Light Director: tilting and switching from the seat, without climbing.

Featuring DarkLicht full-cut-off luminaires and precise light control. Where necessary, we support this with a lighting calculation and report, in accordance with the NSVV Code of Conduct.

Five-year industrial usage warranty, even with heavy daily use.

That depends on the crane type and configuration. Request advice and you will receive a response from an engineer within one working day, including an indication of price and delivery time.
