Our DarkLicht LED floodlights are not conventional wide-angle floodlights. Whereas a traditional floodlight always leaks light upward and to the sides through its lens, the patented parabolic reflector of a cut-off floodlight directs all the light precisely onto the surface to be illuminated. Above the adjustable cut-off angle (63°–75°), there is zero light emission: no glare, no stray light, and no light pollution for nearby residents, traffic, or wildlife.

What is the difference between our LED flat panel lights?

Non-glare work lamps
For machines and vehicles that require focused work lighting without dazzling the operator or the surrounding area, the DarkLicht Mini and DarkLicht S are the ideal choice—compact and also available in low-voltage versions.

Terrain floodlights
For parking lots, construction sites, and industrial sites, the DarkLicht D is the simple solution: built-in driver, 90–305 VAC—install, aim, and you’re done.

Mast and crane surface grinders
The DarkLicht M was developed for mobile light towers, cranes, and fixed towers: 150–300 W, also available in 24V DC, with the higher impact resistance required for these applications.

High-output planar radiators
For terminals, sports fields, and high-mast applications, the DarkLicht One, Two, and Three models deliver up to 307,800 lumens per fixture, with external drivers housed in DRB boxes for easy access during maintenance.

What do you look for when choosing an LED flat panel light?

You don't choose the right flat-beam spotlight based solely on lumens or wattage. The decisive factors are primarily the cut-off angle in relation to mounting height, the sensitivity of the environment (residences, roads, nature), the color temperature, and whether the installation must comply with the NSVV guideline for light nuisance, DarkSky requirements, or a building permit.

Product Choice & Assortment

An LED floodlight is a fixture that evenly illuminates a surface—such as a site, field, or building facade. Our DarkLicht floodlights achieve this using a parabolic reflector instead of lenses, ensuring that all the light is directed onto the surface and none escapes upward or to the sides.

A floodlight disperses light in a wide beam, including towards the sky and surroundings – this is where glare and light pollution originate. A true flat beam with full cut-off cuts off the light above the adjustable angle (63°–75°), so the light pattern ends exactly at the property line.

Full cut-off means that the luminaire does not emit light above the cut-off angle — zero, not even backwards. Anyone looking at the luminaire from outside the site will not see the light source. This eliminates glare and makes installation DarkSky compliant at low color temperatures.

The DarkLicht D was developed for this purpose: 60–200 W with an internal driver, powered directly by 90–305 VAC. It provides uniform lighting for parking spaces without spilling light into surrounding homes, and is dimmable for nighttime operation outside of business hours.

For sports fields, the DarkLicht One and Two are the standard choices, mounted on tall poles with a 69°–72° cutoff angle for maximum uniformity. RKAV Volendam is a real-world example: game lighting on the field, no light spill into the neighborhood.

The DarkLicht M: 150–300 W, up to 51,300 lumens, available in 24V DC and designed for mast and crane mounting. It is the heart of our Sentinel Tower mobile light towers and is widely used on tower cranes.

Yes. Thanks to the full cut-off reflector, upward light emission is zero, allowing the luminaire to meet the strictest DarkSky specifications, including DS-1, at low color temperatures (2200K or 1800K). Relevant near nature reserves and bat routes.

Yes. With a correct lighting design, the thresholds in the NSVV guideline on light pollution are respected in almost all classes, even at high wattages. We substantiate this on a project-by-project basis with a lighting calculation and nuisance assessment – often the difference between obtaining or not obtaining a permit.

Yes, standard via 0-10V and optionally with DALI. This makes night modes, twilight switching, and integration with a management system easy to implement — and further reduces consumption outside operating hours.

That depends on the environment. Floodlights offer maximum flexibility per location; floodlights keep all the light within the site boundaries and are the preferred choice when light pollution or permitting requirements are a concern. In practice, terminals combine both: floodlights on cranes, floodlights on the masts—as at DFDS, resulting in 53% energy savings.

Technology, performance & application

No. For flatbeam luminaires, what matters most is where the light lands: uniformity on the surface and zero emission beyond it. Because no light is lost to the environment and sky, the functional illumination level per watt is actually higher—often fewer fixtures are needed than with classic floodlights.

The cut-off angle determines where the light stops: 75° for low mounting, 72° as standard, 69° for maximum uniformity, 66° for extreme heights, and 63° for the strictest DarkSky zones. The correct angle in relation to pole height determines whether the light pattern ends exactly at the property line.

Near nature reserves and bat routes, we recommend amber (2200K or 1800K): warm light with minimal impact on flora and fauna, and required for the strictest DarkSky certifications. For regular grounds, 4000K is the common choice.

The DarkLicht Mini (30 W) and DarkLicht S (60 W): compact, glare-free work lights for forklifts, machinery, and vehicles, available in low-voltage versions for direct connection to the vehicle's electrical system.

The DarkLicht D comes standard with an internal driver (60–200 W, directly connected to 90–305 VAC)—which is why it’s the simplest choice for field applications. The DarkLicht One 320 and 400 W models also have an internal driver; the larger versions use external drivers.

An industrial IP67 enclosure in which the external drivers for the larger DarkLicht models are mounted (DRB-1 up to 200 W, DRB-2 up to 2000 W). This keeps the electronics accessible for servicing without having to remove the luminaire from the mast—a single DRB-2 can power up to four luminaires.
