Piranha work lamp

Indestructible heavy-duty LED work light for machines, cranes, and heavy equipment

The Piranha is developed for applications where a standard work lamp falls short mechanically and reliability is not an afterthought. With 55W to 70W of power, approximately 6,300 to 8,400 lumens, and an extremely robust construction, this fixture is intended for heavy-duty work environments where dirt, water, vibrations, impact, and intensive daily use are part of reality.

The Piranha is not a general floodlight for larger areas, but a compact, heavy-duty work light for local task lighting close to the application. Think of mounting on excavators, wheel loaders, haul trucks, cranes, service vehicles, earthmoving equipment, and other machines where direct visibility of the work area, machine zone, or service point is needed. Thanks to multiple lens optics, DC and AC versions, and an optional 316L version, the Piranha can be specifically tailored to the application, mounting position, and environment.

When do you choose the Piranha?

The Piranha is intended for local work lighting in harsh environments where compactness, impact resistance, and reliable light output must come together. The fixture is suitable for applications where the lamp is an integral part of a machine, vehicle, crane, or technical installation, and where standard work lamps are too fragile or offer insufficient control over the light pattern.

The Piranha is a logical choice when:

When is Piranha not the right choice?

The Piranha is not intended for every lighting task. Precisely by being clear about this, a better recommendation and a better final result are achieved.

The right optics ensure light in the right place

The Piranha is not just a matter of wattage or lumens, but primarily of the correct light pattern in the right position. Especially with machine lighting, the lens optics largely determine whether the fixture functions effectively in practice. The current product specifications mention four optics, each with its own application area and distance logic.

DCB9 13 degrees

14° spot | floodlight

DCB9 38 degrees

38° | Floodlight

DCB9 14x46 degrees

14° x 46° | asymmetric beam

DCB9 69 degrees

69° | floodlight

Built for heavy use

In demanding environments, it's not just the product that counts, but its application. When deploying the Piranha, we look at mounting position, vibration load, maintenance access, corrosive load, and the luminaire's role within the broader system, not just its wattage.

Lighting application and design

The correct deployment depends on mounting height, desired light levels, spread, and environmental factors. For projects where this must be demonstrably substantiated, JEL Products provides custom, project-specific lighting calculations.

For the most extreme environments

Does your application involve aggressive or corrosive environments, such as in marine, chemical, or otherwise severely corrosive installations?

Then the Piranha can optionally be supplied in 316L stainless steel. This elevates the product from a robust standard solution to an even more deployable work lamp for situations where material selection directly determines lifespan and reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions about Piranha

Product Positioning & Choice

The Piranha is essentially a heavy-duty work lamp. The fixture is intended for local task lighting close to the application, for instance on machines, vehicles, cranes, and service areas where direct visibility is needed. Therefore, it is not a compact floodlight like the Marlin, but a robust work lamp for functional light at short to medium distances.

The Piranha is focused on compact work lighting and local task lighting close to the application. The Marlin is the next step up: more light volume, more spread, and intended for larger functional zones on machines, cranes, and service platforms.

You choose the Piranha when mechanical robustness, protection level, and lifespan are more important than just a compact form or lower entry cost. The Piranha is intended for rougher use and harsher environments where vibrations, impact, water, and dirt are daily occurrences.

The Piranha is usually not the right choice for large open work areas, tall poles, site lighting, or applications where a single fixture needs to cover a large area. In such cases, a floodlight like the Marlin, Barracuda, Orca, or an area lighting solution would be more logical.

In most cases not as primary area lighting. Piranha is intended for task lighting close to the application, not for large areas or higher pole positions. For area lighting, other solutions within your portfolio are more suitable.

The Piranha is particularly suited for machines, excavators, loaders, cranes, heavy transport, service vehicles, mining equipment, and other installations where compact, robust, and reliable work lighting is needed.

Lens and light distribution

This depends on the mounting position, working distance, desired spread, and the type of work. The Piranha is available with 14°, 38°, 14×46°, and 69° optics. The correct choice should not be made on a gut feeling, but based on the work zone and the desired light distribution.

Choose the 14° spotlight when you need focused light at a greater distance. This makes it suitable for focused long-range illumination rather than broad work lighting.

The 38° lens is suitable for medium-sized work areas where a more balanced distribution is needed.

This lens is interesting when a zone needs to be illuminated broadly yet controlled, for example, along the side of a machine, a work surface, or in a linear application.

With a 69° lens, you choose it for very wide light at short distances, for example around a direct work zone or service point.

Yes, based on mounting position, distance, spread, and application, we can help determine the right optics for your situation.

Certification & Standards

The Piranha is certified according to CE, ENEC, and IEC 60598. CE confirms conformity with applicable European directives. ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) is a voluntary European product safety certification that is tested by an independent third party and goes beyond the mandatory CE marking. IEC 60598 is the international standard for luminaires and covers requirements for construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior. For specific project requirements or additional standard requirements, JEL Products can assess the certification status per application.

Protection & Environmental Resistance

Yes. The Piranha has IP69K protection class, making it very resistant to dust and high-pressure water.

Yes. That's exactly why IP69K is relevant. It makes the light suitable for applications where machines or installations undergo periodic intensive cleaning.

The Piranha is performed with IK10. This is a high impact resistance level and is suitable for machine-bound and industrial applications where impact resistance is important.

Yes, provided the correct version is chosen. The Piranha is optionally available in 316L stainless steel for more corrosive conditions.

Yes, especially when corrosion resistance, moisture load, and robustness are important. In maritime or aggressive environments, the correct execution is essential.

No, the Piranha is not intended for explosive atmospheres requiring ATEX or Ex certification. Please contact us if you have any doubts so we can provide a suitable alternative.

Light color, version & configuration

The Piranha is available in 6500K, 4000K, 2700K, and 2200K amber.

Yes. The Piranha is also available in a bi-color version with cool white and amber.

For this purpose, a warmer light color or amber version is often more logical than a cool white variant, as it can be less disruptive to flora, fauna, and the environment.

Yes. The Piranha can be tuned to lens angle, voltage, light color, and environment, so the fixture adapts to the application rather than the other way around.

Maintenance, Lifespan & Warranty

The Piranha is designed for long-term industrial use. The actual lifespan depends on the environment, load, mounting, and installation quality.

The Piranha is low-maintenance by design. However, it is advisable to periodically check the fastening, wiring, contamination, and the general condition of the mounting position.

On the Piranha, there is a 5-year warranty.

Electrical connection & control

Yes. The Piranha is available in 12-24VDC or 24VDC, depending on the model, allowing for direct power from the onboard electrical system of a vehicle or machine.

No. The Piranha is available in both DC and AC versions. An external driver box is required for the AC variant.

The AC version is logical when the power supply comes from an AC installation and no direct DC power supply is available. Consider fixed installations or situations where the fixture is not directly connected to a vehicle or machine onboard network.

For dimming or control options, please contact us. We will determine the appropriate version based on the application and desired control.

OEM, retrofit & application

Yes. The Piranha is compact, robust, and available in different versions, making it well-suited for use as an integral part of a machine, vehicle, or installation.

Yes. The Piranha is interesting for retrofit when existing work lights prove to be too weak, too fragile, or too general for practical use.

Yes. We help select the right configuration based on mounting position, voltage, lens optics, light color, and environment.
