Calculated with ABB S200 at 220 V, from the manufacturer's MCB table. Guideline for the engineering phase and not a replacement for the installation calculation; for verification we provide a lighting advice and installation calculation. If there are multiple drivers in one luminaire, divide the number by that number of drivers.
The lens angle determines where the light ends up. Below are the measured angles from our own IES library, with the optic name as the ordering code next to it. An optic name is not a measured value: the 14° optic measures 13°. If you are in doubt between two angles, we will substantiate the choice with a free lighting calculation.
Driving light for distance, 20 to 80 m
The most chosen angle, 8 to 30 m
Wide working range close up, up to 15 m
Asymmetrical, along boom, roadway or quay
| Optics | Beam angle 50 % | Veldhoek 10 % | Application distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14° spot | 13° | see diagram | 20 to 80 m, measured on the DCB9 optics |
| 38° | nominal 38° | see diagram | 8 to 30 m, the standard choice |
| 69° | 69° nominal | see diagram | up to 15 m, wide close up |
| 14° × 46° flare | asymmetric | see diagram | elongated zones, combinations possible |
The beam angle is the full angle between the directions in which the intensity has decreased to 50 % of the peak; the field angle is 10 %. The upward light output is 0 % at 0° tilt. Combinations of optics within a single luminaire are possible.
On machines, booms, and cranes, the mounting determines whether a work light will reach its lifespan. The Piranha combines a short pre-assembled cable with a Deutsch connector with the strongest bracket in the line.
The DC versions come with a short, pre-assembled 0.3-meter cable with a DT04-2P connector: a single connection to the vehicle's electrical system, without a junction box or cable gland as a source of interference.
High tensile strength stainless steel clamp, infinitely adjustable within the range. The bundle remains secure even under continuous vibration.
Self-aligning suspension for crane use, which keeps the bundle aimed at the load while the boom moves.
The AC versions have a remote BLD075 driver; the DRB-1 accommodates this, either on the structure or in the cabinet.
A fall protection cable is optionally available and is often a strict requirement when installed above a work area. The DRB-1 driver box houses the remote driver and is mounted directly behind the luminaire using the rear mount bracket. The Crane Light Stabilizer has its own product page. For tower cranes see also Tower crane lighting.

Where the Piranha is installed in practice, and why there.
On haul trucks, loaders, and excavators where impact and vibrations are part of everyday operations. The cast housing and IK10 rating form the foundation for this.
For task lighting on the boom and crane bridge, close to the load and hook. With the Crane Light Director, the beam remains focused on the load; OEM-installed on Sany cranes.
Eurol Rallysport's rally trucks drove the Dakar: continuous shocks, dust and water, for two weeks. The toughest practical test there is.
On booms, frames, and service points of construction machinery: direct view of the work area and machine zone, even during high-pressure cleaning at the end of the day.
For ships, quays, the chemical industry and offshore applications, the Piranha is made entirely of 316L: housing, bolts and bracket, untreated and without a coating that can be damaged. The front is chemically toughened glass or borosilicate.
The lighting performance is identical to the aluminum version: 8,400 lm for AC, 8,200 lm for DC, with the same optics. Only the size and weight differ: 166 × 166 × 102 mm and 5.0 kg.

Every claim carries its condition in the same sentence. You can read more about the test methods at Product Quality and Warranty.
Neutral salt spray test in accordance with ISO 9227, performed on a cast housing that had been scratched beforehand: no coating delamination after 1,007 hours.
Vibration-resistant up to 6 G at resonance in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6, with shock testing in accordance with IEC 60068-2-27.
Dakar-tested on the rally trucks of Eurol Rallysport and operating daily on mining equipment, cranes, and earthmoving machinery. If a work light survives there, it will survive anywhere.

Is your question not listed, or would you like something calculated? An engineer will respond within 1 business day.
Both are lens-type work lights with the same optics. The Piranha is the more heavily built version: 3.1 kg versus 1.8 kg, a bracket that clamps infinitely from −45° to +90°, and the only one available in AC and completely in 316L. The Goby is lighter and has the Deutsch connector integrated directly into the housing. If you are in doubt, the environment is the decisive factor: the harsher it is, the sooner you should choose the Piranha.
The Piranha 6 operates on 9–35 V and covers 12- and 24-volt networks; the Piranha 9 delivers a full 8,200 lm at 24 V. If mains power is available, there is the AC version with remote driver. If the environment is corrosive, such as on ships, quays, or in chemical plants, there is the 316L in DC or AC.
The DC versions come with a short pre-assembled 0.3 m cable with a DT04-2P: waterproof, vibration-resistant, and can be connected to the on-board electrical system without a junction box. The AC versions have stripped wires for connection to the remote driver.
For the AC version with the BLD075 driver: 11 on a B16, 19 on a C16, 30 on a C25, and 32 on a D16, calculated using ABB S200 at 220 V, per driver. This is a guideline for the engineering phase and not a replacement for the installation calculation.
The AC version dims via 0–10 V, PWM, and DALI-2, and can be configured via NFC. For the DC versions, dimming is customized; group switching is possible via the on-board power supply.
The 38° is the standard choice for work surfaces at 8 to 30 meters. The 14° spot (measured 13°) bridges distance, the 69° illuminates broadly up close, and the 14° × 46° flare lays an asymmetrical path along the boom or lane. Combinations within a single machine are common; we advise per mounting position.
Completely 316L, untreated: there is no coating that can be damaged. Corrosion class C5 and CX according to ISO 9223, CRC III according to EN 1993-1-4 with PREN ≈ 24, and a 20-year warranty on the housing. The front is chemically toughened glass or borosilicate.
Yes. The luminaire has been tested to IP66, IP67, IP68, and IP69K. All of these classes are mentioned because they are different tests: IP69K is high-pressure and high-temperature steam jet, IP68 is immersion. One does not imply the other.
Yes. The vibration class is 6 G at resonance according to IEC 60068-2-6, with shock testing according to IEC 60068-2-27. The practical test was tougher: the Piranha completed the Dakar Rally on the rally trucks of Eurol Rallysport.
The 360,000 hours is a TM-21 L90B05 value: at that point, at least 95 % of the luminaires will still be delivering at least 90 % of their initial light output. This is more stringent than the standard L70 and L80 specifications. In practice, environmental conditions and installation quality determine how well the luminaire performs.
No. The luminaire is not intended for hazardous areas. If ATEX is a requirement, please discuss this in advance, and we will determine a suitable solution together.
Yes. The Piranha is OEM-fitted on Sany cranes, among others. With DC and AC versions, the DT04-2P connection, and the Crane Light Director, we tailor optics, voltage, and mounting to the machine architecture.
