Orca LED Floodlight

The largest and most powerful industrial LED floodlight in a single housing: up to 111,300 lumens, IP69K, and IK10, for the toughest cranes, mining, and offshore applications.

The Orca is the flagship model of our floodlight line. Essentially, it’s a larger version of the Barracuda. With 800 W of power and up to 111,300 lumens from 156 lenses in a single cast housing, this is the largest and most powerful industrial floodlight we manufacture, and the most powerful single-housing floodlight on the market that is also IP69K-rated. It’s no coincidence that Mammoet chose it for the SK6000, the world’s largest land crane.

The Orca is available in the same variants as the Barracuda: AC (180–528 VAC) and DC versions, made entirely of 316L stainless steel for extreme corrosion environments, and a high-temperature version rated up to +120°C. The mounting options are also designed to meet these needs: ranging from rear-mount brackets and self-stabilizing brackets—with the driver mounted on the bracket if desired—to the Orca Crane Bracket for tower cranes.

When should you choose the Orca?

The Orca is designed for the most demanding lighting applications: locations where maximum light output per fixture is critical, and where mechanical stress, weather, and continuous operation determine the service life of standard fixtures. Fewer luminaires, fewer cables, and fewer mounting points—while maintaining heavy-duty ruggedness.

The Orca is a logical choice when:

When is the Orca not the right choice?

The Orca is not intended for every lighting application. It is precisely by being clear about this that we can provide better advice and achieve a better end result.

The Orca is usually not the right choice when:

Variations of the Orca

100,200 - 111,300 lumens

The standard Orca in an aluminum version with a titanium-based e-coating and a bracket made of high-tensile 316L stainless steel. Available in AC versions (180–528 VAC, 111,300 lumens) and DC versions (up to 100,200 lumens) for 24V and 48V systems.

For each mounting position

For complex mounting situations, we supply application-specific accessories: self-stabilizing brackets—with the driver mounted directly on the bracket, if desired—a rear-mount bracket for the driver box on the back of the fixture, and the Orca Crane Bracket for secure mounting on tower cranes.

100,200 - 111,300 lumens

Fully manufactured from 316L stainless steel for marine, offshore, and chemical environments where standard coatings are insufficient. Same light performance, IP69K and IK10, with a 20-year warranty on the housing.

High temperature lighting optics in ORCA HT
39,000 - 55,000 lumens

Developed for ambient temperatures up to +120°C, such as furnace zones in the steel and glass industries. 240–320 W with extra thermal protection, chemically tempered glass, and optional infrared reflective print, HT lenses, or 316L stainless steel housing.

So versatile that it is often available with complex brackets

The Orca owes its position not only to its cast aluminum housing containing less than 0.08% of copper, its titanium-based e-coating, and its IK10 impact-resistant front, but also to the mounting system that surrounds it. Especially on large cranes, mining equipment, and offshore installations, the mounting system determines whether a luminaire will reach the end of its service life.

That is why the Orca is available with application-specific accessories:

  • Stabilizing bracket – self-stabilizing suspension (304/316 stainless steel) that automatically keeps the light level in a boom, ensuring the light beam remains directed at the work zone at every boom stage;
  • Stabilizing bracket with driver – the same stabilization, with the remote driver mounted directly on the bracket for a compact unit;
  • Rearmount bracket – for mounting the driver box directly on the back of the luminaire, where an external driver position is not possible;
  • Orca Crane Bracket – hot-dip galvanized crane frame with a robust pin system, suitable for all tower crane brands. For more information, see our page tower crane lighting.

ORCA Technical drawing

Orca HT for high ambient temperatures

The Orca HT is the high-temperature version within the Orca product family and the most powerful HT floodlight we offer. Where standard LED fixtures fail due to heat, the Orca HT continues to operate at ambient temperatures up to +120°C—even in the presence of infrared radiation from ovens and smelters. There are three versions: 240 W with a 120° beam angle (55,000 lumens) and 240 or 320 W with high-temperature optics of 20°, 40°, or 60° for directional lighting. All versions feature additional thermal protection, chemically toughened glass, a heat-resistant silicone cable, and a remote driver located outside the hot zone. An infrared-reflective circuit board and a 316L stainless steel housing are available as options.

The right optics ensure light in the right place

The Orca is chosen not only based on power or lumens, but primarily on how the light is directed. The lens angle determines where the light falls: a narrow 14° spot concentrates the light up to 700 meters away, while a 69° lens illuminates a wide area up close. In addition, the asymmetrical 14°x46° flare is available for wide yet focused illumination—commonly used on crane booms. The right choice depends on the mounting height, work area, and desired illumination level. JEL Products can support this with a project-specific lighting calculation upon request.

Lighting application and design

Not every application requires the same lighting pattern. Especially for cranes, machines, and mobile installations, the mounting height, the operator’s line of sight, and the shape of the work area determine which combination of lens options will yield the best results. For projects where this must be substantiated, JEL Products provides a customized lighting calculation, including the number of fixtures, their positioning, and expected illuminance levels in lux.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Orca

Product Positioning & Choice

Yes. With 111,300 lumens from a single die-cast housing, the Orca is the most powerful industrial floodlight on the market that is also IP69K-rated. Thanks to careful thermal engineering—156 lenses mounted on a housing designed for maximum heat dissipation—the light output remains consistent even during continuous operation.

The Orca is essentially a larger version of the Barracuda: it shares the same design philosophy, coatings, and variants (AC/DC, 316L stainless steel, and HT), but with 800 W and up to 111,300 lumens compared to 320 W and 44,650 lumens. Choose the Barracuda when the more compact size and lower weight are more suitable; choose the Orca when maximum light output per position is required.

The Shark delivers approximately 50,000 lumens at 320 W and is optimized for efficiency and low weight (9.2 kg). The Orca, with 800 W and 111,300 lumens, is designed for maximum output per housing—and is correspondingly heavier at 22.7 kg. On large cranes and installations, a single Orca can easily replace two smaller fixtures, including cables and mounting points.

The Snapper HC achieves up to approximately 83,000 lumens by combining multiple lightweight Snapper units and is the lightweight solution for high output. The Orca delivers even more light (111,300 lumens) from a single die-cast, heavy-duty housing with IK10 impact resistance—the more robust choice for impacts, vibrations, and the harshest environments.

In most cases, it is not used as primary site lighting. For site lighting and area lighting—where large areas need to be illuminated from tall poles without causing light pollution—the DarkLicht solutions are a more logical and efficient choice. On tall poles at work sites, such as in the mining industry, the Orca, on the other hand, is a proven choice.

Lenshoek & light calculation

The correct lens angle depends on mounting height, desired illuminance, surface area, and the nature of the work. There is no universal rule of thumb that adequately determines this. The correct choice is substantiated with a lighting calculation in a simulation program. JEL Products can perform this calculation for you, tailored to your specific situation. This way, not only the lens angle but also the number of luminaires, their positioning, and the expected illuminance levels in lux are determined.

Certification & Standards

The Orca is certified in accordance with CE and IEC 60598. CE certifies compliance with the applicable European directives. IEC 60598 is the international standard for lighting fixtures and includes requirements regarding construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior. In addition, the Orca helps ensure compliance with EN 12464-2 for the safe lighting of industrial outdoor workplaces. For specific project requirements, JEL Products can assess the certification status on a per-application basis.

Protection & Environmental Resistance

Yes. The Orca is designed for the harshest outdoor environments. The aluminum alloy housing contains less than 0.08% of copper to minimize galvanic corrosion and features a two-layer titanium-based e-coating; the bracket is made of high-tensile 316L stainless steel as standard. For environments with aggressive chemicals or extremely salty water, the Orca is available entirely in 316L stainless steel, with a 20-year warranty on the housing.

Yes. The Orca is IP69K-certified, which means the fixture can withstand high-pressure and steam jet cleaning. It is tested in accordance with the IP69K standard: high-pressure, high-temperature water jets from all angles. The fixture is therefore suitable for environments where machines and equipment are periodically cleaned intensively.

No, the Orca is not currently ATEX-certified. The fixture is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Zone 1, Zone 2, or similar). For applications where ATEX certification is required, we recommend discussing this with us in advance so that a suitable solution can be determined.

Copper in aluminum alloys accelerates galvanic corrosion when the aluminum comes into contact with stainless steel or seawater. By deliberately keeping the copper content below 0.08%, this corrosion chain is interrupted. Combined with the 316L stainless steel bracket and the titanium-based e-coating, this results in a fixture that maintains its structural integrity even during prolonged exposure to salty or corrosive environments. This is a deliberate choice of materials, not a standard specification.

Vibration & mechanical stress

Yes. The Orca was developed for the largest cranes, mining machinery, and offshore installations where continuous vibrations and heavy shocks are part of the operating environment. For moving mounting positions, we supply self-stabilizing brackets, and for tower cranes, the Orca Crane Bracket with a robust pin system. For specific vibration classes or regulatory requirements, JEL Products can assess suitability on a case-by-case basis.

Maintenance & longevity

The Orca is low-maintenance and requires no periodic maintenance after installation. There are no consumable parts or replaceable modules; the driver is mounted remotely and is therefore accessible separately. The recommended inspection points are standard for luminaires in harsh environments: checking the cable entry for a proper seal, verifying the torque on the mounting bolts, and keeping the cooling fins free of dust, grease, or buildup.

The specified service life of 145,000 hours is an L80B10 value. This means that at that point, 90% of the luminaires will still be delivering at least 80% of their initial light output. With continuous use of 24 hours a day, this corresponds to over 16 years; with 16 hours a day, nearly 25 years. In practice, the LED itself is rarely the limiting factor; environmental stress, corrosion, mechanical stress, and installation quality determine the actual service life in the field.

Electrical connection & control

The standard Orca AC supports 180–528 VAC and is therefore intended for phase-to-phase and high-current connections, as is common on large cranes and industrial installations; a 250–740 VDC version is available as an option. The DC version is available for 24V (20–35 VDC) and 48V (35–60 VDC) systems. The HT versions are available in 90–305 VAC and 180–528 VAC. The correct version is selected at the time of ordering; if in doubt, we recommend consulting with us in advance.

Yes, for applications where the light level needs to be adjustable or the fixture needs to be integrated into a control system, dimming options are available for each model. Which control option is appropriate depends on the switching configuration and the system into which the Orca is integrated. Please contact us to discuss the options for your configuration.

OEM & Customization

Yes. The Orca is included as a standard component on the largest cranes and machines from leading manufacturers—including the Mammoet SK6000, the world’s largest land crane. For mass production, JEL Products can tailor the lens angle, voltage configuration, color temperature, and mounting accessory to the specific machine architecture.

The complete set of dimensions, including the mounting pattern and bracket cross-sections, is included in the product datasheet (product dimensions: 500 x 441 x 96 mm; bracket adjustable ±240° in 30° increments). This is available in the downloads section or upon request. For project-specific mounting solutions, in addition to the standard bracket, we also supply stabilizing brackets, a rear-mount bracket, and the Orca Crane Bracket.
