The Barracuda was developed at the request of the mining industry: a floodlight that is virtually indestructible while delivering high light output. With 240–320 W of power, up to 44,650 lumens, IK10 impact resistance, and IP69K protection, it has been the benchmark fixture for over 13 years in environments where downtime is not an option: mining, bulk handling, port cranes, offshore operations, and heavy industry.
Another feature that sets the Barracuda apart is its mounting system. In addition to the standard bracket made of high-tensile 316L stainless steel, the fixture is available with a heavy-duty bracket that withstands shocks of up to 200 G, a rear-mount bracket for mounting the driver box at the rear, a Crane Light Stabilizer that automatically stabilizes the light on a crane boom, and a boom kit for mounting on flat-top tower cranes. Each version is available in AC (90–305 / 180–528 VAC) and DC (20–35 VDC).
The Barracuda is designed for lighting applications where mechanical stress, vibrations, and environmental conditions determine the service life of standard luminaires. The luminaire performs best in environments where impact, dust, moisture, and continuous operation converge, and where downtime directly translates to operational costs.
The Barracuda is a logical choice when:
The Barracuda is not intended for every lighting application. It is precisely by being clear about this that we can provide better advice and achieve a better end result.
The Barracuda is usually not the right choice when:
The standard Barracuda in an aluminum version with a titanium-based e-coating and a bracket made of high-tensile 316L stainless steel. Available in an AC version (90–305 / 180–528 VAC, up to 44,650 lumens) and DC version (20–35 VDC, up to 40,800 lumens) for direct connection to the 24V vehicle electrical system.
For complex mounting positions, we supply application-specific accessories: a heavy-duty bracket that absorbs shocks up to 200 G, a rear mount bracket for the driver box on the back of the luminaire, the Crane Light Stabilizer for automatic stabilization in the crane boom, and a boom kit for mounting in flattop tower cranes.
Fully manufactured from 316L stainless steel for marine, offshore, and chemical environments where standard coatings are insufficient. Same light performance, IP69K and IK10, with a 20-year warranty on the housing.
Developed for ambient temperatures up to +120°C, such as oven zones in the steel, glass, and paper industries. 120 W / 20,600 lumens with extra thermal protections, chemically tempered glass, and optional infrared-reflective print or 316L stainless steel housing.
The Barracuda owes its reputation not only to its cast aluminum housing containing less than 0.08% of copper, its titanium-based e-coating, and its IK10 impact-resistant front, but also to the range of mounting options available for it. Especially on cranes, mining equipment, and material-handling systems, the mounting system determines whether a luminaire will reach its expected service life.
That is why the Barracuda is available with application-specific accessories:
For harbor, transshipment, and tower cranes where vibrations and wind loads are constant. With the Crane Light Stabilizer and boom kit, the Barracuda can be mounted precisely in any crane boom.
The market for which the Barracuda was developed 13 years ago: haul trucks, excavators, and bulk-handling equipment. With its heavy-duty bracket, the fixture can withstand shocks of up to 200 G.
For harbor cranes, offshore platforms, and ships. Standard protected with titanium e-coating and IP69K, or in full 316L stainless steel for the harshest salt loads.
For furnace zones and processes in the steel, glass, and paper industries up to +120°C, where standard LED lighting is not thermally sufficient. Available as the Barracuda HT model.

The Barracuda HT is the high-temperature version within the Barracuda product family. Where standard LED fixtures fail due to heat, the Barracuda HT continues to function at ambient temperatures up to +120°C—even when exposed to infrared radiation from ovens and smelters. The fixture is equipped with additional thermal protections against overheating and burnout, chemically toughened glass, and a 15-meter heat-resistant connection cable (SHiF-OB), allowing it to be connected outside the hot zone. An infrared-reflective circuit board and a 316L stainless steel housing are available as options. This makes the Barracuda HT suitable for furnace zones and processes in industries such as steel, glass, and paper.
The Barracuda is chosen not only based on power or lumens, but primarily on how the light is directed. The lens angle determines where the light is directed: a narrow 14° spot concentrates the light over a very long distance, while a 69° lens illuminates a wide area close to the application. In addition, the asymmetrical 14°x46° flare is available for wide yet focused illumination at a distance—commonly used on crane booms. The right choice depends on the mounting height, work zone, and desired illumination level. JEL Products can support this with a project-specific light calculation upon request.

14° spot | floodlight

38° | Floodlight

14° x 46° | asymmetric beam

69° | floodlight
Not every application requires the same lighting pattern. Especially for cranes, machines, and mobile installations, the mounting height, the operator’s line of sight, and the shape of the work area determine which combination of lens options will yield the best results. For projects where this must be substantiated, JEL Products provides a customized lighting calculation, including the number of fixtures, their positioning, and expected illuminance levels in lux.
No. The Barracuda is not a work light, but a heavy-duty industrial floodlight. The fixture is designed for lighting applications that require high light output, wide beam spread, and maximum mechanical durability—conditions in which a work light or lightweight floodlight would be the weak link.
The Snapper is the compact, lightweight floodlight in the family: 2.7 kg, IP67, and up to approximately 31,000 lumens. The Barracuda is more robustly built (10.1 kg), IK10 impact-resistant and IP69K-rated, and delivers up to 44,650 lumens at 320 W. Choose the Snapper when weight and mounting space are key factors; choose the Barracuda when ruggedness and output are the top priorities.
The Shark delivers approximately 50,000 lumens at 320 W and is optimized for maximum luminous flux per watt and the lowest weight per lumen (9.2 kg). The Barracuda is the more robust choice with the most extensive mounting options: heavy-duty 200G bracket, rear-mount bracket, Crane Light Stabilizer, and boom kit. While the Shark prioritizes efficiency, the Barracuda prioritizes durability and mounting flexibility.
The Orca is designed for the largest cranes, machines, and mining equipment, delivering 800 W and approximately 111,000 lumens from a single 22.7 kg housing. The Barracuda is a step down from that and is designed for applications where 32,600 to 44,650 lumens per fixture are sufficient and a more compact size is more practical.
In most cases, not as primary site lighting. For site lighting and area lighting—where large areas need to be illuminated from tall poles without causing light pollution—the DarkLicht solutions are a more logical and efficient choice.
The correct lens angle depends on mounting height, desired illuminance, surface area, and the nature of the work. There is no universal rule of thumb that adequately determines this. The correct choice is substantiated with a lighting calculation in a simulation program. JEL Products can perform this calculation for you, tailored to your specific situation. This way, not only the lens angle but also the number of luminaires, their positioning, and the expected illuminance levels in lux are determined.
The Barracuda is certified in accordance with CE and IEC 60598. CE certifies compliance with the applicable European directives. IEC 60598 is the international standard for lighting fixtures and includes requirements regarding construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior. In addition, the Barracuda helps ensure compliance with EN 12464-2 for the safe lighting of industrial outdoor workplaces. For specific project requirements, JEL Products can assess the certification status on a per-application basis.
Yes. The Barracuda was designed for the harshest outdoor environments. The aluminum alloy housing contains less than 0.08% of copper to minimize galvanic corrosion and features a two-layer titanium-based e-coating; the bracket is made of high-tensile 316L stainless steel as standard. For environments with aggressive chemicals or extremely salty water, the Barracuda is available entirely in 316L stainless steel, with a 20-year warranty on the housing.
Yes. The Barracuda is IP69K-certified, which means the fixture can withstand high-pressure and steam jet cleaning. It is tested in accordance with the IP69K standard: high-pressure, high-temperature water jets from all angles. The fixture is therefore suitable for environments where machines and equipment are periodically cleaned intensively.
No, the Barracuda is not currently ATEX-certified. The fixture is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Zone 1, Zone 2, or similar). For applications where ATEX certification is required, we recommend discussing this with us in advance so that a suitable solution can be determined.
Copper in aluminum alloys accelerates galvanic corrosion when the aluminum comes into contact with stainless steel or seawater. By deliberately keeping the copper content below 0.08%, this corrosion chain is interrupted. Combined with the 316L stainless steel bracket and the titanium-based e-coating, this results in a fixture that maintains its structural integrity even during prolonged exposure to salty or corrosive environments. This is a deliberate choice of materials, not a standard specification.
Yes, this is precisely where the Barracuda excels. The mount was developed for mining equipment, bulk handling, and cranes where continuous vibrations and severe shocks are part of the operating environment. For the most demanding load profiles, we offer the heavy-duty bracket, which absorbs shocks and vibrations up to 200 G, and the Crane Light Stabilizer for moving mounting positions on crane booms. For specific vibration classes or regulatory requirements, JEL Products can assess suitability on a per-application basis.
The Barracuda is low-maintenance and requires no periodic maintenance after installation. There are no consumable parts or modules that need to be replaced. The recommended inspection points are standard for luminaires in harsh environments: checking the cable entry for a proper seal, verifying the torque of the mounting bolts, and keeping the cooling fins free of dust, grease, or buildup. Beyond this standard inspection, the luminaire requires no active maintenance.
The specified service life of 145,000 hours is an L80B10 value. This means that at that point, 90% of the luminaires will still be delivering at least 80% of their initial light output. With continuous use of 24 hours a day, this corresponds to over 16 years; with 16 hours a day, nearly 25 years. In practice, the LED itself is rarely the limiting factor; environmental stress, temperature, corrosion, mechanical stress, and installation quality determine the actual service life in the field. The Barracuda has been proving this for more than 13 years in mining environments worldwide.
The Barracuda is available in three voltage versions. The AC version with 90–305 VAC is intended for phase-to-neutral connections, generator power, and mains voltage variations; the AC version with 180–528 VAC is intended for phase-to-phase and high-voltage connections. The DC version supports 20–35 VDC and connects directly to the 24V onboard power supply of machines and vehicles. The correct version is selected at the time of ordering based on the installation requirements; if in doubt, we recommend consulting with us in advance.
Yes, for applications where the light level needs to be adjustable or the fixture needs to be integrated into a control system, dimming options are available for each model. The appropriate control option depends on the switching configuration and the system into which the Barracuda is integrated. Please contact us to discuss the options for your configuration.
Yes. The Barracuda has been included as a standard component on mining equipment, cranes, and heavy machinery from leading manufacturers for over 13 years. For mass production, JEL Products can tailor the lens angle, voltage configuration, color temperature, and mounting accessory—from a heavy-duty bracket to a rear-mount bracket, Crane Light Stabilizer, or boom kit—to the specific machine architecture.
The full dimensions, including mounting pattern and bracket cross-sections, are included in the product data sheet (product dimensions: 320 x 290 x 90 mm).
