Calculated with ABB S200 at 220 V, from the manufacturer's MCB table. Guideline for the engineering phase and not a replacement for the installation calculation; for verification we provide a lighting advice and installation calculation. If there are multiple drivers in one luminaire, divide the number by that number of drivers.
The lens angle determines where the light ends up. Below are the measured angles from our own IES library, with the optic name as the order code next to it. An optic name is not a measured value: the 69° optic measures 72°. If you are in doubt between two angles, we will substantiate the choice with a free lighting calculation.
Driving light for very long distance, 50 to 300 m
Medium distance, 30 to 100 m
Wide illumination nearby, 15 to 60 m
Just targeted, up to 150 m. A lot in crane jibs.

On cranes, mining equipment, and material-handling systems, the mounting method determines whether a light luminaire will reach the end of its service life. That is why the Barracuda is available with application-specific brackets.
Damped mount that absorbs continuous vibrations and shocks up to 200 G. Developed for bulk handling and transshipment cranes.
The DRB-1 driver box mounts directly onto the back of the luminaire. One compact unit, with no separate driver position in the housing.
Self-stabilizing suspension that keeps the lamp level in a crane jib, so that the beam remains aimed at the work zone at every jib stage.
Stackable frame for mounting in the jib of flat-top tower cranes.
A fall protection cable is optionally available and is often a strict requirement when installed above a work area. The DRB-1 driver box houses the remote driver and is mounted directly behind the luminaire using the rear mount bracket. The Crane Light Stabilizer has its own product page. For tower cranes see also Tower crane lighting.
All dimensions in millimeters. The mounting pattern and bracket cross-sections are in the datasheet; DXF and STEP files are available upon request.

Where the Barracuda is installed in practice, and why there.
For harbor, material-handling, and tower cranes where vibrations and wind loads are constant. The Crane Light Stabilizer and boom frame can be mounted in any boom.
The market for which the Barracuda was developed thirteen years ago: haul trucks, excavators, and bulk-handling equipment. With the heavy-duty bracket rated up to 200 G.
For harbour cranes, offshore platforms and ships. Titanium e-coating with IP69K, or completely 316L for the heaviest salt loads.
For furnace zones and processes in the steel, glass, and paper industries up to +120 °C, where standard LED lighting falls short thermally.
Where standard LED luminaires fail due to heat, the Barracuda HT continues to function, even when exposed to infrared radiation from furnaces and smelters. The luminaire comes standard with additional thermal protections, chemically toughened glass, and an infrared-reflective circuit board.
The driver stays outside the hot zone: a 15-meter-long SiHF-OB cable bridges the distance to the BLD320, which fits into the DRB-1 driver box. Optionally in a 316L enclosure.

Is your question not listed, or would you like something calculated? An engineer will respond within 1 business day.
No. The Barracuda is a heavy-duty industrial floodlight. It is designed for applications that require high light output, wide beam spread, and mechanical ruggedness, precisely the conditions in which a work light becomes the weak link. For local work lighting on a machine, the Piranha and the Goby are the logical choices.
The Snapper is compact and lightweight, weighing 2.7 kg and rated IP67, with a luminous flux of up to approximately 31,000 lm. The Shark delivers approximately 50,000 lm at 320 W and is optimized for the lowest weight per lumen. The Orca delivers 111,300 lm from a single 22.7 kg housing. The Barracuda falls in between, distinguished by its mounting options: heavy-duty bracket up to 200 G, rear mount, Crane Light Stabilizer, and boom frame.
For the AC version with the TLD320 driver: 4 on a B16, 7 on a C16, 11 on a C25, and 8 on a D16. For the HT with the BLD320: 2, 4, 7, and 8. These numbers are from the manufacturer's MCB table at 220 V, calculated using ABB S200, and apply per driver. This is a guideline for the engineering phase and is not a replacement for the installation calculation.
Yes. The AC versions dim via 0–10 V, PWM, and DALI-2, and can also be configured via NFC. Dimming for the DC version is custom-made, as it uses a constant current. Furthermore, each AC model can be programmed to a lower wattage: when ordering, you place the suffix after the article code, for example .240W.
That depends on mounting height, desired illuminance, the shape of the work zone, and the operator's line of sight. There is no rule of thumb that adequately determines this. We substantiate this with a lighting calculation, which also specifies the number of luminaires, positioning, and expected lux levels. The datasheet shows the measured angle, not the optic name: the 69° optic measures 72°.
Yes. The aluminum housing contains less than 0.08 % copper to minimize galvanic corrosion and features a two-layer titanium-based e-coating; the bracket is made of 316L as standard. This results in a corrosion class of C5 Industrial and Maritime. For aggressive chemicals or extremely salty water, the fully 316L version is available, with C5 and CX ratings, a PREN of approximately 24, and a 20-year warranty on the housing.
Standard five years on the complete luminaire. For a 316L housing, twenty years apply to the housing itself and five years on everything else: electronics, components, and seals. That distinction is intentional, so that you do not replace a driver after eight years under the assumption that it fell under the twenty-year period. The HT version is rated for five years up to +120 °C.
Yes. The luminaire has been tested to IP66, IP67, IP68, and IP69K. All of these classes are mentioned because they are different tests: IP69K is high-pressure and high-temperature steam jet, IP68 is immersion. One does not imply the other.
Yes, that is the application for which it was developed. The vibration rating is 6 G at resonance, tested in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6, with shock testing in accordance with IEC 60068-2-27. For the most demanding load profiles, we supply the heavy-duty bracket rated up to 200 G, and for moving positions on a crane boom, the Crane Light Stabilizer.
The 360,000 hours is a TM-21 L90B05 value: at that point, at least 95 % of the luminaires will still be delivering at least 90 % of their initial light output. This is more stringent than the standard L70 and L80 specifications. Under continuous operation, this amounts to over 41 years. In practice, the LED is rarely the limiting factor; environmental stress, temperature, corrosion, and installation quality determine the luminaire’s actual performance in the field.
No periodic product maintenance and no consumable parts or replaceable modules. The inspection points are typical for harsh environments: check the cable gland for sealing, check the mounting bolts for correct torque, and keep the cooling fins free of dust, grease, and biological growth.
No. The luminaire is not intended for hazardous areas. If ATEX is a requirement, please discuss this in advance, and we will determine a suitable solution together.
Yes. For over thirteen years, the luminaire has been supplied as a standard component on mining equipment, cranes, and heavy machinery. For series production, we tailor the optics, voltage version, color temperature, and mounting accessories to the machine architecture.
CE, IEC 60598, EN 55015, EN 61547 and the EMC Directive. IEC 60598 covers construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior. In addition, the luminaire helps meet EN 12464-2 for the safe lighting of industrial outdoor workplaces. Configurations for North America are available upon request.
