The Snapper HC is built for maximum performance per unit of weight. While comparable floodlights are constructed from an extruded profile, the HC housing is cast from a mold specifically developed for the applications in which it operates daily: harbor cranes and mobile light towers. The result is a luminaire that delivers up to 83,000 lumens while weighing just 12.6 kg, with optimal heat dissipation and no seams or end caps to act as weak points.
The Snapper HC is a multi-configuration model: two (x2) or three (x3) light units in a single housing, available in AC (90–305 / 180–528 VAC) and 24V DC. The latter is ideal for mobile light towers. Three mounting options (standard, top-mount, and side-mount) allow for installation in virtually any position on a crane or mast, and each fixture comes standard with a safety cord.
The Snapper HC is designed for applications where a lot of light is needed, but every kilogram counts: crane structures where weight dictates the installation, and mobile light towers that are set up and taken down every day. Net efficiency per kilogram is the guiding principle of the design.
The Snapper HC is a logical choice when:
The Snapper HC is not intended for every lighting application. It is precisely by being clear about this that we can provide better advice and achieve a better end result.
The Snapper HC is usually not the right choice when:
Technically not an HC, but the single unit on which the series is based: 180 W and 31,000 lumens (172 lm/W) from the same die-cast housing design. The choice when a single compact unit per position is sufficient.
Two light units in a single molded housing weighing just 9.9 kg. Available in an AC version (270 or 320 W, up to 55,000 lumens) and a 24V DC version (300 W, 44,100 lumens), the latter being the standard choice for mobile light towers.
Three light units in a single molded housing weighing 12.6 kg. Available in an AC version (400 or 500 W, up to 83,000 lumens) and a 24V DC version (450 W, 66,200 lumens). The workhorse for STS and RMG cranes, where maximum light output per mounting point is essential.
On a crane or light pole, the mounting method determines whether a luminaire will reach its expected service life and whether installation and maintenance remain practical. That is why the Snapper HC is available with three bracket options, tailored to the mounting position:
Each fixture comes standard with a safety cord, so that the installation also meets the current fall protection requirements when working at heights.
The application for which the HC was developed: Ship-to-Shore and RMG cranes where maximum light is needed per mounting point with minimal weight on the construction. Can be mounted on any crane position with top mount and side mount brackets.
Light enough for daily setup and takedown, powerful enough for an entire work site. The 24V DC models connect directly to the mast power supply—without an inverter.
For ships, terminals, and maritime cranes. The cast housing with titanium e-coating and <0.08% copper is designed for salty air and heavy-duty outdoor use.
For terminal equipment and transshipment positions where ample light per position can limit the number of fixtures, cables, and maintenance occasions. Proven in European, Australian, and American ports.
The link between work lights and heavy-duty floodlights.
The Snapper's multi-configuration: maximum lumens per unit weight per mounting point.
Most powerful compact floodlight with more output and more range.
More efficient floodlight with the lowest weight per lumen.
Heaviest floodlight for highest lumen output per housing.
The Snapper HC is available in x2 and x3 configurations, each in AC and 24V DC versions; the single x1 model rounds out the series. All versions share the same die-cast housing, three mounting bracket options, and the safety cord.

Most multi-unit floodlights on the market are constructed from an extruded profile with end caps. This is inexpensive to manufacture, but results in seams, added weight, and less direct heat dissipation. The Snapper HC housing is cast from a single mold, specifically designed for use on harbor cranes and mobile light towers: no seams or end caps to act as weak points, cooling fins positioned exactly where heat is generated, and the lowest possible weight per lumen. Combined with the titanium e-coating, the UV-protected polycarbonate front, and the safety lanyard included as standard, this is a luminaire built for years of daily use at heights.
The Snapper HC is chosen not only for its output, but primarily for its light control. Each unit within the configuration can be fitted with its own lens: a 15° spot for the rows of containers in the distance, combined with a 60° or 90° floodlight for the work area directly beneath the crane. The bracket is adjustable by ±180° in 30° increments. This creates a light pattern at each mounting point that precisely matches the operator’s field of view. If desired, JEL Products can support this with a project-specific lighting calculation.

14° spot | floodlight

38° | Floodlight

14° x 46° | asymmetric beam

69° | floodlight
Not every application requires the same lighting pattern. Especially on cranes and masts, the mounting height, the operator’s line of sight, and the shape of the work zone determine which lens combination per fixture will yield the best results. For projects where this must be substantiated, JEL Products provides a customized lighting calculation, including the number of fixtures, their positioning, and expected illuminance levels in lux.
No. The Snapper HC is a multi-configuration floodlight designed for permanent mounting on cranes, masts, and structures—it is not a work light. For compact work lighting on machines, the Goby, Piranha, or DarkLicht S are the appropriate choices.
The Snapper is a single compact unit (150–180 W, up to approximately 31,000 lumens). The Snapper HC combines two or three of these light units in a single cast housing, delivering up to 83,000 lumens per mounting point—with each unit having its own lens. Choose the Snapper for widely spaced locations; choose the HC where maximum light output is needed per location, such as at crane positions.
The Shark is a single heavy-duty fixture rated at 320 W / 50,000 lumens with IK10 impact resistance. The Snapper HC, with its x3 configuration, delivers more light (up to 83,000 lumens) at a comparable weight, with configurable lenses per unit. Choose the Shark if there’s a risk of impact; choose the HC when output per kilogram and lens flexibility are priorities.
The Orca is the most powerful option: 800 W and 111,300 lumens from a single 22.7 kg housing with IK10 rating. The Snapper HC x3 delivers 83,000 lumens at just 12.6 kg. At crane positions where weight and wind resistance matter, the HC is therefore often the more practical choice; the Orca wins out when absolute output is the top priority.
In most cases, it is not used as primary site lighting. For sites and area lighting without light pollution, the DarkLicht solutions are a more logical choice. On mobile light poles—a form of temporary site lighting—the Snapper HC, on the other hand, is a proven choice.
The correct lens angle depends on the mounting height, desired illuminance, surface area, and the nature of the work. With the Snapper HC, there is also flexibility in configuration per unit: spot and wide-beam lenses can be combined within a single fixture. The right choice is supported by a light calculation in a simulation program; JEL Products performs this for you, tailored to the crane or mast position.
The Snapper HC is certified in accordance with CE and IEC 60598. In addition, the fixture helps ensure compliance with EN 12464-2 for the safe lighting of industrial outdoor workplaces. The safety cord included as standard meets current requirements for installation at heights. For specific project requirements, JEL Products can assess the certification status on a per-application basis.
Yes. The Snapper HC was developed for ports and maritime environments. The die-cast housing contains less than 0.08% of copper to minimize galvanic corrosion and features a two-layer titanium-based e-coating. This makes the luminaire resistant to salt air and intensive outdoor use on cranes and terminals.
Yes, for normal outdoor use: the Snapper HC is IP67-rated and therefore completely dust- and waterproof, with a UV-protected polycarbonate front. For environments where fixtures are periodically cleaned with high pressure or steam, we recommend discussing this in advance—IP69K models are available in our product line for such applications.
No, the Snapper HC is not currently ATEX-certified. The fixture is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Zone 1, Zone 2, or similar). For applications where ATEX certification is required, we recommend discussing this with us in advance so that a suitable solution can be determined.
Copper in aluminum alloys accelerates galvanic corrosion when the aluminum comes into contact with stainless steel or seawater. By deliberately keeping the copper content below 0.08%, this corrosion chain is interrupted. Combined with the titanium-based e-coating, the fixture retains its structural integrity even after prolonged exposure to salty harbor air.
Yes, this is the core environment for the Snapper HC. Crane structures and mobile masts are subject to constant vibrations and wind loads; the one-piece cast housing has no seams or end caps that could act as weak points. The brackets (standard, top-mount, and side-mount) are designed to withstand these loads, and the safety cord secures the fixture during installation at height.
The Snapper HC is low-maintenance and requires no periodic product maintenance after installation. The recommended inspection points are standard for luminaires mounted on cranes and masts: checking the cable entry and safety cord, verifying that the bracket bolts are tightened to the correct torque, and keeping the cooling fins clear. Beyond this standard inspection, the luminaire requires no active maintenance.
The specified service life of 196,000 hours is an L80B10 value: at that point, the luminaires will still be delivering at least 80% of their initial light output. With continuous use 24 hours a day, this corresponds to well over 22 years. In practice, environmental conditions, vibrations, and installation quality determine the actual service life; the die-cast housing is designed precisely for these conditions.
The AC versions support 90-305 VAC (line-neutral, generator power) or 180-528 VAC (line-line and three-phase, commonly found on cranes). The DC versions operate on the 24V vehicle electrical system (20-35 VDC) and are the standard choice for mobile lighting masts—directly from the mast power supply, without an inverter. The correct version is selected upon ordering; if in doubt, we recommend clarifying this in advance.
Yes, for applications where the light level must be adjustable or the fixture needs to be integrated into a control system, dimming options are available per version. Which control version is suitable depends on the switching mechanism of the crane or mast. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities for your configuration.
Yes. The Snapper HC is included as a standard component on harbor cranes and mobile light towers from several manufacturers. For mass production, JEL Products can tailor the configuration (x2/x3), number of lenses per unit, voltage specification, and bracket type (standard, top-mount, or side-mount) to the machine’s architecture.
The complete dimensions, including mounting pattern and bracket cross-sections per bracket type, are included in the product datasheet (x2: 320 x 314 x 205 mm; x3: 320 x 484 x 205 mm). This is available via the download section or upon request.
