Snapper HC LED Floodlight

Maximum light per kilogram on the crane: up to 83,000 lumens at 12.6 kg, made up of cast light modules. For STS and RMG cranes and mobile lighting towers.

A multi-configuration model: two or three molded light modules on a single bracket, without seams or end caps. Available in AC and 24 V DC, with three bracket options and a safety cord as standard.

Response within 1 business day by an engineer. Free lighting calculation and trial luminaire possible.

Decision Aid

When should you choose the Snapper HC?

Net yield per kilogram is the basis for the design: plenty of light per mounting point, without adding extra weight or wind resistance to the structure.

  • STS, RMG or other port cranes require maximum light per mounting point
  • The luminaire is mounted on and removed from a mobile lighting tower each time
  • The mounting position requires a top mount, side mount, or Crane Light Stabilizer
  • The weight on the structure or boom must be kept limited at high light output
  • AC and DC occur within a single fleet
  • Need more output than a single Snapper, without upgrading to the Orca

When another luminaire fits better

The Snapper HC is not intended for every task. Being clear about its limitations leads to a better end result.

  • One compact floodlight is all you need: then the Snapper or the Barracuda
  • A maximum impact resistance rating of IK10 is a strict requirement; the Snapper HC has an IK08 rating: therefore, the Marlin
  • Need more than 83,000 lumens from a single luminaire? Then the Orca
  • Complete light blocking against light pollution is required: then DarkLicht
  • ATEX or Ex certification is required
  • A high-temperature version is required: in that case, the Snapper HT or the Barracuda HT
Versions

Three configurations

One cast light module as a base, two or three of the same modules on a single bracket. What differs is the number of modules and the power supply.

Snapper HC x1

31,000 lm at 180 W

Technically speaking, it's not an HC, but rather the single unit on which the series is based: 180 W and 31,000 lumens from the same die-cast design. The product is the Snapper.

Optics

Optics and measured beam angles

Each light module within the configuration can be given its own lens, allowing a single luminaire to illuminate multiple zones simultaneously. Below are the angles from our own IES library, with the optic name as the ordering code next to it. An optic name is not a measured value: the 30° optic measures a 29° beam and 73° field angle. If you are in doubt between two angles, we will substantiate the choice with a free lighting calculation.

The beam angle is the full angle between the directions in which the intensity has decreased to 50 % of the peak; the field angle is 10 %. Combinations of optics within a single luminaire are possible; the asymmetric 20° × 50° and 20° × 85° options are also available. Optics that have not yet been measured are listed with their nominal values.

Mounting

Video editing software

On cranes, the mounting method determines whether a luminaire will last its full service life. The Snapper HC offers three mounting options, standard, top mount, and side mount, allowing it to be installed in virtually any position.

Construction

Molded light modules, without seams or end caps

Whereas comparable multi-unit luminaires are assembled from an extruded profile with end caps, each light module of the HC is cast from a single mold: fewer seams, fewer seals, and a lower risk of leakage.

Two or three modules share a single bracket and a single cable, and each module can be equipped with its own lens, allowing a single luminaire to illuminate multiple zones at the same time.

The base is the same cast light module. The Snapper is that module as a standalone luminaire; the HC mounts two (x2, up to 55,000 lm at 9.9 kg) or three (x3, up to 83,000 lm at 12.6 kg) on a single bracket, with a single cable and a single mounting point. The Orca is capable of producing more than 83,000 lumens from a single luminaire.

Per configuration: the x1 with BLD240 3 on a B16, 6 on a C16, 9 on a C25 and 10 on a D16; the x2 with BLD320 2, 4, 7 and 8; the x3 with TLD600 3, 3, 5 and 4. Calculated with ABB S200 at 220 V, per driver. It is a guideline for the engineering phase and not a replacement for the installation calculation.

Yes. Within one x2 or x3, each light module can be given its own optics, from 15° spot to 90° wide and the asymmetrical 20° × 50° and 20° × 85°. This way, a single mounting point can simultaneously illuminate, for example, the row of containers nearby and the area further away.

Yes. The AC versions are dimmable via 0–10 V, PWM, and DALI-2, and can also be configured via NFC. For the DC versions, dimming is customized because a constant current is used there.

Similar multi-unit luminaires are built from an extruded profile with end caps; every seam there is a seal that can age. Each HC module comes from a single mold, without seams or end caps, and is tested to IP66, IP67, and IP68.

Yes. The modules contain less than 0.08 % of copper and have a 2-layer titanium-based e-coating; the bracket is 316L. This corresponds to corrosion class C5 Industrial and Maritime. There is no fully 316L version of the HC; if that requirement is mandatory, consider the Snapper 316L or the Barracuda 316L.

However, for crane positions outside the immediate working area: IK08 with impact-resistant glass can withstand normal industrial use and weather conditions. If maximum impact resistance (IK10) is a strict requirement, choose the Marlin or the Barracuda.

Yes. The vibration rating is 6 G at resonance, tested in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6, with shock testing in accordance with IEC 60068-2-27. Each luminaire comes with a safety cord, and the Crane Light Stabilizer model is available for crane booms.

The 360,000 hours is a TM-21 L90B05 value: at that point, at least 95 % of the luminaires will still be delivering at least 90 % of their initial light output. This is more stringent than the standard L70 and L80 specifications. In practice, the LED is rarely the limiting factor; environmental conditions and installation quality determine the luminaire’s actual performance in the field.

No. The luminaire is not intended for hazardous areas. If ATEX is a requirement, please discuss this in advance, and we will determine a suitable solution together.

Yes. On mobile lighting towers, the x2 DC 24 V is a standard OEM choice, and on harbor cranes, the x3 is included as a standard component. For series production, we tailor the configuration, optics, voltage, and bracket to the design.

CE, IEC 60598, EN 55015, EN 61547 and the EMC Directive. IEC 60598 covers construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior. In addition, the luminaire helps meet EN 12464-2 for the safe lighting of industrial outdoor workplaces. Configurations for North America are available upon request.
