Marlin spotlight

Compact heavy-duty floodlight for heavy industrial, marine, and machine-mounted applications

The Marlin is designed for applications where a standard work lamp falls short, but a larger fixture like the Barracuda or Orca which is not needed or not practical. With 120W of power, approximately 18,000 lumens, and the same robust protection philosophy as the rest of this product family, the Marlin is designed for demanding environments where compactness, reliability, and functional light need to come together.

This luminaire fills the gap between task lighting and heavier project floodlights. Think of applications on machinery, cranes, service platforms, ships, industrial installations, and mobile systems where the build quality of a full heavy-duty luminaire is required, but where size, weight, and power need to be managed.

The right optics ensure light in the right place

The lens angle determines where the light falls. A narrow 14° spot concentrates the light at a greater distance, while a wide 69° lens illuminates a larger surface close to the application. The right choice depends on installation height, work area, and the desired illumination level. JEL Products can substantiate this for you with a project-specific light calculation.

Built for heavy use

In demanding environments, it's not just the product that matters, but the application. When deploying the Marlin, we look at mounting position, vibration load, maintenance access, corrosive load, and the luminaire's role within the broader system, not just its power.

Lighting application and design

The correct deployment depends on mounting height, desired light levels, spread, and environmental factors. For projects where this must be demonstrably substantiated, JEL Products provides custom, project-specific lighting calculations.

Available in project-specific configurations

The Marlin is available in multiple versions: lens angle, voltage version, mounting bracket, and coating are matched to the application. Configuration is based on the intended use, not on standard power.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Marlin

Product Positioning & Choice

No. The Marlin is not a standard work lamp, but a compact, heavy-duty floodlight. The luminaire is intended for functional lighting tasks in tougher environments where a higher level of robustness, spread, and light output is required than a work lamp can offer.

The Piranha is focused on compact work lighting and local task lighting close to the application, with 8,500 lumens. The Marlin is the step above that: more light volume (18,000 lumens), more spread, and intended for larger functional zones on machines, cranes, and service platforms.

The Marlin is positioned more compactly and lighter. The Barracuda offers significantly more output with 45,000 lumens and is intended for heavier or more spacious lighting tasks where more range or light volume is needed. The Marlin is the right choice when size, weight, and power need to be controlled.

The Orca is intended for the largest cranes, machinery, mining equipment, and mobile lighting towers, with 111,000 lumens and a corresponding size and weight. The Marlin sits clearly below that and is intended for more compact functional zones where a full heavy-duty large fixture is not needed or practical.

In most cases, no, not as primary site lighting. For site lighting and area lighting, where large areas need to be illuminated from high masts, DarkLicht solutions are more logically and efficiently deployed.

Lenshoek & light calculation

The correct lens angle depends on mounting height, desired illuminance, surface area, and the nature of the work. There is no universal rule of thumb that adequately determines this. The correct choice is substantiated with a lighting calculation in a simulation program. JEL Products can perform this calculation for you, tailored to your specific situation. This way, not only the lens angle but also the number of luminaires, their positioning, and the expected illuminance levels in lux are determined.

Certification & Standards

The Marlin is certified according to CE, ENEC, and IEC 60598. CE confirms conformity with the applicable European directives. ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) is a voluntary European product safety certification tested by an independent third party, going beyond the mandatory CE marking. IEC 60598 is the international standard for lighting luminaires and covers requirements related to construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior. For specific project requirements or additional standard requirements, JEL Products can assess the certification status per application.

Protection & Environmental Resistance

Yes. The Marlin is designed for use in demanding outdoor environments. The fixture has IP69K protection, a 316L stainless steel bracket, and an aluminum alloy housing with less than 0.08% copper to minimize galvanic corrosion. The 2-layer titanium-based e-coating provides additional protection against salt, moisture, and chemical exposure. This makes the fixture suitable for use in marine, offshore, and industrial environments with intensive corrosive loads.

Yes. The Marlin is IP69K certified, which means the fixture is resistant to high-pressure and steam jet cleaning. This is tested according to the IP69K standard: high-pressure and high-temperature water jet from all angles. The fixture is therefore suitable for environments where machinery, decks, or installations are periodically cleaned intensively.

No, the Marlin is not ATEX certified at this time. The fixture is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Zone 1, Zone 2, or similar). For applications where ATEX certification is a requirement, we advise discussing this in advance so that a suitable solution can be determined.

Copper in aluminum alloys accelerates galvanic corrosion when aluminum is in contact with stainless steel or seawater.% By intentionally keeping the copper content below 0.08, this corrosion chain is interrupted. Combined with the 316L stainless steel bracket and the e-coating, this results in a fixture that maintains its structural integrity even with prolonged exposure to salty or corrosive environments. This is a deliberate material choice, not a standard specification.

Vibration & mechanical stress

Yes. The Marlin is specifically developed for machine-oriented and mobile applications where continuous vibration load is part of the operating environment. Consider cranes, mobile machines, mining equipment, and vehicle-mounted installations. The construction, housing, bracket, and internal structure are tailored to these load profiles. For specific vibration classes or standard requirements, JEL Products can assess suitability per application.

Maintenance & longevity

The Marlin is low-maintenance and requires no periodic product upkeep after installation. There are no consumables or replaceable modules. The recommended inspection points are standard for luminaires in harsh environments: checking the cable gland for a seal, verifying mounting bolt torque, and keeping cooling fins clear of dust, grease, or buildup. Beyond these standard inspections, the luminaire requires no active maintenance intervention.

Electrical connection & control

The Marlin AC supports two voltage ranges. The 90-305VAC range is intended for line-neutral connection, while 180-528VAC is intended for line-to-line connection or high-voltage applications. The driver does not automatically switch between these ranges; the correct version is chosen at the time of order based on installation requirements. If you are unsure about the correct voltage version, we recommend coordinating this in advance.

Yes. The Marlin comes standard with 0-10V dimming, allowing for stepless adjustment of the light level via an external control signal. For applications requiring integration into a DALI network, such as within a building management system, SCADA environment, or integrated lighting network, a DALI version is also available. Which control version is suitable depends on the switching device and the system into which the Marlin will be incorporated.

OEM & Customization

Yes. The Marlin is suitable for OEM applications where the fixture is supplied as a fixed component of a machine, crane, or mobile installation. For series production, JEL Products can align the lens angle, voltage version, mounting bracket, and control to the specific machine architecture.
