The M is the powerful mid-range model in the line: too much output for a work light, too compact for a high-mast floodlight. Available in four versions, each with two power ratings in both 24V DC and AC. In DC mode, you can connect it directly to a vehicle electrical system or battery bank; in AC mode, it operates with a remote driver that fits into a DRB1 box. The patented parabolic reflector positions the light source deep within the fixture, ensuring that no light escapes above the set angle.

When should you choose the DarkLicht M?

The M is intended for situations where a standard floodlight is no longer allowed or no longer fits: lighting with power, without the surroundings noticing anything.

  • Work is being carried out near homes, roads, railways, or nature reserves, and light pollution must be excluded
  • The NSVV guideline on light pollution, DarkSky, DS-1, or a permit condition requiring complete shielding
  • The luminaire on a crane, machine or mobile mast is subjected to vibrations: 6 G at resonance has been specified
  • If work is being carried out on a 24V vehicle electrical system or battery bank: the DC versions connect directly
  • Where high-pressure or steam cleaning is performed daily: the M is IP69K
  • Consumption counts: 171 lm/W net, because nothing is lost outside the zone

When another luminaire fits better

Precisely at the shielding and the format also lies the limit of its application.

  • The light from a spot-type fixture needs to reach hundreds of meters: in that case, the Marlin or Shark would be a better choice
  • When very large areas need to be illuminated from tall masts: use the DarkLicht One, Two, and Three
  • The application needs to remain compact: in that case, the DarkLicht S or DarkLicht Mini are a better fit
  • The luminaire on a facade comes: then the WP wallpack is the right size
  • The maximum impact resistance requirement for IK10 is: DarkLicht M is equivalent to IK08 with a glass front
  • If ATEX or IECEx certification is required: the DarkLicht M does not have it
Versions

Two powers, each in DC and AC

All four models share the patented reflector, the five cutoff settings, the die-cast aluminum housing containing less than 0.08 percent copper, and the two-layer titanium e-coating. The difference lies in the power supply: DC with the drivers mounted on a circuit board, or AC with a remote driver that fits inside a DRB1 enclosure.

The mentioned article numbers are the 5000K variants; the same versions are also available in 4000K, 3000K, and amber 2200K, with the color code included in the article number. Color switching between 4000K, 2200K, and 1700K is possible, switchable during operation.

The DarkLicht M is the heart of our Sentinel Tower light pole. Configurations ranging from four to twelve luminaires illuminate work areas of 7,500 to 15,000 m², fully shielded. We also supply these same luminaires separately for existing masts: in AC for construction power or in DC for battery-powered and hybrid masts.

The DarkLicht line has been tested by a third party and complies with DarkSky and DS-1 at 1,700 to 2,200 K. Using the same technique, Heddes Bouw won the award for best-performing construction site at More 1 and 2.

The DarkLicht M has a fixed bracket; angle adjustment is only possible with an additional bracket. You adjust the cutoff itself on the fixture. Configurations for North America are available upon request. The beam pattern for the bracket is not yet included in the datasheet; that vector drawing was requested for the JEL.

Connect and integrate into the installation

For DC, connect the M directly to the vehicle's electrical system using a DT04-2P Deutsch plug. For AC, a remote driver is required: the BLD240 for the M150 and the BLD320 for the M300, both of which fit into a DRB1 driver box.

These figures come from the driver manufacturer's MCB table at 220 V and apply per driver. The inrush current is 66.0 A peak with a T50 of 0.5 ms for the M150 and 31.2 A peak with a T50 of 1.3 ms for the M300: the M300 draws a lower peak but holds it longer, and that is what causes a type B circuit breaker to trip.

This table does not apply to the DC version: there, the cable cross-section determines the result. 12.5 amperes per M300 means that a long supply line on a mast or boom quickly results in a voltage drop. The principle

A parabolic reflector instead of a lens

Whereas traditional floodlights disperse light in wide beams, the DarkLicht M’s light source is deeply concealed behind a patented parabolic reflector. No light escapes above the set angle: no light is scattered into the sky, and there is no glare for the train operator, nearby residents, or road users.

The cut-off is adjustable in five settings between 63 and 75 degrees. This allows you to determine how far the light reaches forward for each position, without needing a different lens or luminaire. In the shielding position, we measure a beam angle of 132 degrees and a field angle of 138 degrees; those measured values are on the datasheet, not the nominal optical angle. Precisely because the light is directed in a controlled manner, the mounting position strongly determines how effectively the luminaire performs on the work surface.

Amber and color-tunable

The M is switchable between 4000K, 2200K, and 1700K during operation. That is more than a specification line: amber penetrates fog, rain, and dust where cool white does not. At ports, cranes, and winter services, that is the difference between being able to keep working or not.

The difference in the IP rating within the product line is intentional: the M, S, Mini, and WP models are IP69K, while the D, One, Two, and Three models are IP67. These are differently designed products.

The two models differ in overall length and weight, but not in the height of the reflector opening. In the AC version, the driver is not part of the fixture; it is factored into the mast calculation separately, depending on where the DRB1 box is mounted.

A glare-free LED floodlight with patented parabolic reflector technology. The light source is positioned deep within the fixture, ensuring that the light is completely shielded (full cut-off) and that no glare or light pollution occurs. The series includes the M150 with 25,700 lumens at 150 W and the M300 with 51,300 lumens at 300 W, both with 171 lm/W and available in both 24V DC and AC versions.

Two power ratings, each available in two power supply options. Whereas a traditional floodlight emits light in all directions and upward, the DarkLicht M sharply cuts off the light and keeps it entirely within the work zone. You get the output of a floodlight without the glare that normally comes with it. If you’re looking for maximum throw over long distances without glare, check out the Marlin or the Shark.

Yes. The M combines high output with targeted light control, ensuring that the light output remains functional on the work surface instead of being lost as stray light. At 171 lm/W, this is the highest efficiency in the glare-free segment.

The cut-off is adjustable in five positions between 63 and 75 degrees forward angle. A higher value provides more reach, a lower value a wider spread close by. In the shielded position, we measure a beam angle of 132 degrees and a field angle of 138 degrees; those measured values are on the datasheet, not the nominal optics angle.

Precisely because the light is directed in a controlled manner, the mounting position strongly determines how effectively the luminaire performs on the work surface. Correct placement is therefore more important than with a generic broad beam. We can support this with a lighting calculation upon request.

Yes, and it is the only one in the DarkLicht line for which this has been specified: 6 G at resonance according to IEC 60068-2-6, with shock testing according to IEC 60068-2-27. For the other DarkLicht models, no vibration class has been tested, so we do not list anything; an assumption is not a specification.

The M offers more output and is intended for applications where greater reach or a larger working zone is required. The Mini (4,800 lm) and the S (10,260 to 12,825 lm) are aimed at more compact applications and close-up task lighting, based on the same glare-free lighting principle.

The D is a mains-powered outdoor fixture with the driver integrated into the housing, designed for poles up to approximately twelve meters, and is model IP67. The M is also available in a 24-volt version, is designated IP69K, and has a proven vibration resistance rating, making it suitable for machinery, cranes, and areas requiring frequent cleaning. The optical principle is the same for both models.

For very large areas and high-mast applications. Those three together form a single product line in six power ratings, from 320 to 1,800 W with 51,200 to 307,800 lumens, and are intended to illuminate entire sites from high masts. The M is the powerful middle segment below that.

CE, IEC 60598, EN 55015, EN 61547, and the associated EMC requirements. IEC 60598 specifies requirements for construction, electrical safety, and thermal behavior; EN 55015 and EN 61547 address emissions and immunity. Configurations for North America are available upon request. For specific project requirements, we assess the certification status on a case-by-case basis.

No. There is no type approval from DNV, Lloyd's, Bureau Veritas or any other classification society. If your client or specifications require this, we prefer to state that in advance. We do provide the available documentation: certification, test reports and the bill of materials.

On the AC versions, 6 kV line-to-line and 10 kV line-to-ground according to IEC 61000-4-5, supplied by the remote driver. The DC versions have drivers on the circuit board and operate on a vehicle power supply or battery bank; in these cases, protection depends on the onboard installation. Provide us with the power supply specifications, and we’ll let you know what’s required.

On the AC version: three M150 units on a B16, six on a C16, nine on a C25, and ten on a D16; M300 two, four, seven, and eight. These quantities come from the driver manufacturer's MCB table at 220 V and apply per driver. This table does not apply to the DC version: there, the cable cross-section determines the result, because an M300 draws 12.5 amperes at 24 volts.

Yes. The fixture is a full cut-off and does not emit any light above the set angle, which is the crux of most glare criteria. Furthermore, the DarkLicht line has been tested by a third party and complies with DarkSky and DS-1 at 1700 to 2200 K. For permits, we provide the lighting calculation with a report in accordance with the NSVV code of conduct, including values at sensitive points and not just within the work zone.

The M can be switched between 4000K, 2200K, and 1700K during operation. Amber light penetrates fog, rain, and dust where cool white light does not; at ports, with cranes, and during winter road maintenance, that’s the difference between being able to continue working and not. Furthermore, at 1,700 to 2,200 K, the luminaire complies with DarkSky and DS-1.

No. The DarkLicht M is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. For applications requiring ATEX or IECEx certification, we recommend discussing this with us in advance so that a suitable solution can be determined.

TM-21 L90B05 over 103,500 hours: after that number of hours, at least 95 percent of the luminaires still provide 90 percent of their original luminous flux. The driver for the AC version has a lifespan of at least 100,000 hours at a housing temperature of 75 °C and 130,000 hours at 50 °C, with an MTBF exceeding 280,000 hours according to MIL-HDBK-217F. MTBF and service life are two different measures and are not interchangeable.

The weight, drag coefficient and projected area per tilt angle, plus the number of luminaires per mast. Those are in the dimensioning section on this page: 3.6 and 5.5 kilos, Cd 1.15 and a projected area of 35,000 and 55,500 mm² respectively at zero degrees.
