Up to 307,800 lumens from a single luminaire at 171 lm/W, with an adjustable cut-off from 63 to 75 degrees. Above that angle, the light output is zero, both forwards and backwards.
A standard floodlight uses lenses and therefore always loses some of its light to glare and scattered light. The DarkLicht uses a patented parabolic reflector that directs the light onto the surface to be illuminated and not beside it. This not only reduces complaints from nearby residents: since no light escapes, you don’t need to generate as much, so you need fewer poles and fewer watts to achieve the same light level.

This fixture is at its best where a lot of light is needed on the site and none of it may spill over, because a permit, a guideline, or the neighborhood requires it. If that is not an issue, you are paying for light control that you do not need.
| A site, terminal, or sports field must be illuminated from masts |

At DFDS in Vlaardingen, the switch to DarkLicht resulted in a 53 percent reduction in energy consumption, while the terminal was better lit than before. The aerial photo shows how the reflector works: the area is brightly lit, and the edges are sharply defined. At P&O Ferries in Europoort, energy consumption dropped by approximately 66 percent, with thirty new mast structures installed in just two weeks at a terminal that continued to operate as usual.
BUSS Terminal Eemshaven, RKAV Volendam, and the HSB construction site in Hilversum also use the DarkLicht system.

One Three replaces multiple traditional floodlights, without a single lumen of stray light. For the largest sites and high mast applications. When choosing, pay attention to the load-bearing capacity of the structure: 35 kg per fixture, plus wind load.
With a standard floodlight, you choose a lens and that fixes the beam. Here, you set the cut-off: the angle above which no more light comes out of the fixture. That choice follows from the mounting height, the shape of the site, and how sensitive the surroundings are, and it can be changed on-site, even after the pole is installed.
On top of that, the square reflector modules can be rotated 90 degrees in both directions. This allows you to tilt the light distribution per position to match the shape of the terrain without having to choose a different fixture.
| Cut-off | What for |
|---|---|
| 75° | Maximum forward shielding, for low mounting heights. |
| 72° | The standard mode: the best balance between forward light and uniformity. |
| 69° | For the highest possible uniformity across the plane. |
| 66° | For lighting from extreme heights, above 50 meters. |
| 63° | For the strictest DarkSky zones, in combination with the lowest color temperatures, 1700 or 1800 K. |
Which angle belongs to your position follows from the lighting calculation. We make this free of charge, including the assessment against the NSVV light nuisance guideline or your environmental permit, see lighting advice and lighting calculation.
With large installations, the difference lies not in the fixture but in the power supply, the mounting, and the configuration. That is why we supply the DarkLicht as a system.
Hot-dip galvanized frame with a robust pin system, compatible with all brands of tower cranes. Holds up to four DarkLicht assemblies, including distribution, and is stackable for transport and storage. See tower crane lighting.
From the DL1-600 onwards, the driver is external, housed in an industrial driver box made of the same aluminum with titanium e-coating as the fixtures: IP67, optionally IP68, IK08, driver lifespan exceeding 130,000 hours, and a power factor above 0.95. The DRB-1 up to 200 W, the DRB-2 up to 2,000 W; one DRB-2 powers up to four fixtures.
The fact that the driver is located outside the fixture has two practical consequences: the fixture remains lighter on the pole, and the driver can be replaced without dismantling the fixture. At a height of fifty meters, that saves a crane.
From fixed masts to mobile setups, tailored to mounting height and cut-off. See light masts and high masts and the mobile light mast.
Every DarkLicht installation is supported by a lighting calculation: number of fixtures, positions, cut-off angle, expected illuminance in lux, and compliance with the NSVV guideline or the permit. This service is provided free of charge, even if you use the plan elsewhere.
Using the DL-CCB-400+DIS crane frame, the DarkLicht illuminates the entire construction site from the boom, in compliance with DarkSky standards, as seen at the HSB construction site in Hilversum. No complaints from the neighborhood, yet a full view of the work.
At DFDS in Vlaardingen, the switch resulted in a 53 percent saving: the site lit, the surroundings dark. BUSS Terminal Eemshaven and P&O Ferries chose the same approach.
Where the NSVV guideline on light nuisance and the environmental permit set the framework, the lighting determines whether work may continue at night. Fully shielded light, dimmable for the night hours.
For sports facilities that want to limit nuisance to local residents and nature, such as RKAV Volendam. Uniform match lighting on the pitch, no spill light into the neighborhood, and optionally 2200 K amber along a nature reserve.
The same reflector technology in eight sizes, from 4,800 to 307,800 lumens. One, Two, and Three are the fixed area floodlights for site and mast; the M is the version for cranes and mobile masts; the D and the WP are the simple outdoor luminaires; the S and the Mini are the work lights for machinery. Only the WP and the 320 W version are at 160 lm/W, the rest at 171.
| Luminaire | Luminous flux | Power | Toe the line | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DarkLight Three | 307,800 lm | 1,800 W | largest sites, high mast | 35.0 kg |
| DarkLight Two | 136,800 to 205,200 lm | 800 to 1,200 W | terminals in industrial areas | 24.8 kg |
| DarkLight One | 51,200 to 102,600 lm | 320 to 600 W | medium-sized grounds and sports fields | 14.0 to 15.0 kg |
| DarkLicht M | 25,700 to 51,300 lm | 150 to 300 W | cranes and mobile light towers | 3.6 to 5.5 kg |
| DarkLicht D | 10,300 to 34,200 lm | 60 to 200 W | parking and industrial areas | 6.9 to 8.5 kg |
| DarkLicht WP wallpack | 9,600 to 16,000 lm | 60 to 100 W | facades and entrances | 4.0 kg |
| DarkLicht S | 10.260 to 12.825 lm | 60 to 75 W | work light on machinery | 3.3 kg |
| DarkLicht Mini | 4,800 lm | 30 W | compact work lamp | 2.2 lbs |
The three sizes share the same height and depth: 550 by 160 mm. Only the width and weight increase with the number of reflector modules. The bracket is made of high-grade 316L stainless steel; the complete bolt pattern is listed in the datasheet.

| One | 365 × 550 × 160 | 14.0 to 15.0 kg |
| Two | 635 × 550 × 160 | 24.8 kg |
| Three | 905 × 550 × 160 | 35.0 kg |
Dimensions in mm, width × height × depth.

The DarkLicht operates on 180 to 528 volts AC and is therefore intended for phase-to-phase and high-voltage connections; a version for 250 to 740 volts DC is optional, and a 24-volt DC variant of the DL1-600 is available. The DL1-320 and DL1-400 have an internal driver, while the larger models have an external driver housed in a DRB box. Dimming is standard via 0–10 V, with DALI available as an option; this allows for the configuration of a night mode or a schedule, which is the standard method for further reducing energy consumption and light pollution outside of operating hours.

Light control. A conventional floodlight uses lenses or an open optical system, which means that some of the light is always lost as glare and scattered light. The DarkLicht uses patented parabolic reflectors: above the adjustable cutoff, light output is zero—both forward and backward. All the light is directed onto the surface to be illuminated, which is why fewer fixtures are often needed to achieve the same level of illumination.
Yes. Because no light escapes above the cutoff, the upward light emission is zero, which means that the DarkLicht at low color temperatures (2200 K, 1800 K, or 1700 K) meets the strictest DarkSky specifications, including DS-1. With proper lighting design, the limits set by the NSVV light pollution guideline are also met in virtually all classes, even at high power levels. We substantiate this for each project with a lighting calculation.
That follows from the mounting height, the dimensions of the site and the sensitivity of the surroundings. As a rule of thumb: 75 degrees for low mounting, 72 degrees as standard, 69 degrees for maximum uniformity, 66 degrees from extreme heights above 50 meters, and 63 degrees in the strictest DarkSky zones, combined with 1700 or 1800 K. We substantiate the final choice with a lighting calculation, including the number of luminaires, the positions and the expected illuminance in lux.
CE and IEC 60598, along with the corresponding EMC standards. In addition, the luminaire is designed to comply with the NSVV light pollution guideline and, at low color temperatures, with the most stringent DarkSky specifications, including DS-1. For workplace lighting, the DarkLicht supports compliance with EN 12464-2, and for sports facilities, with EN 12193. For specific project requirements, we assess the certification status on a per-application basis.
No. There is no type approval from DNV, Lloyd's, Bureau Veritas, or any other classification society. If your specification requires this, we state this in advance and provide the documentation that is available.
The drivers are equipped with surge protection; the exact value depends on the chosen driver configuration and the DRB box. When making your request, please indicate if a specific requirement applies, for example from a terminal standard or an insurer, and we will confirm the value with the quotation.
That depends on the power, voltage, and cable route. For a line of poles on a site, the voltage drop is usually the limiting factor, not the circuit breaker. Provide the number of poles, the power per pole, and the cable route, and we will calculate it and provide the load table with the plan.
The type designations are DL1, DL2, and DL3, followed by the wattage; the DC version of the One is called DL-O1-600DC and the crane frame DL-CCB-400+DIS. The cut-off position and light color are specified separately when ordering, as these follow from the lighting calculation rather than the product selection. The complete order codes can be found in the article classification. The HS code for the luminaires is 9405500090.
The M is the glare-free version for cranes, machinery, and mobile light towers: 150 to 300 W, 25,700 to 51,300 lumens, IP69K, and 3.6 to 5.5 kg. The large DarkLicht is the fixed floodlight for site and mast lighting: 320 to 1,800 W, up to 307,800 lumens per fixture, with external drivers in DRB boxes starting at 1,200 W.
The D is a simple outdoor floodlight ranging from 60 to 200 W with an internal driver, delivering 10,300 to 34,200 lumens, designed for parking lots, construction sites, and industrial grounds on poles ranging from four to twelve meters. The large DarkLicht picks up where the D leaves off: larger areas, taller masts, and power ratings up to 1,800 W, supplied as a system with driver boxes and lighting calculations.
Yes, that is a core application. Even pitch lighting across the field without stray light towards homes or nature, as at RKAV Volendam. In doing so, we calculate according to EN 12193, the standard for sports lighting, which sets requirements for illuminance and uniformity per level. For match visibility, 4000 to 5000 K is often chosen; if the field borders a nature reserve, 2200 K or lower is possible.
Yes. The aluminum housing contains less than 0.08 percent copper to minimize galvanic corrosion and features a two-layer titanium e-coating; the bracket is made of high-grade 316L stainless steel. This makes the fixture suitable for ports, coastal locations, and industrial sites. For extremely corrosive environments, 316L versions are available within the DarkLicht family; please inquire about the options for each model.
Copper in aluminum accelerates galvanic corrosion as soon as the aluminum comes into contact with stainless steel or seawater. By deliberately keeping the copper content below 0.08 percent, that corrosion chain is broken. In combination with the 316L bracket and the titanium e-coating, the luminaire maintains its structural integrity, even during prolonged exposure to salt.
Yes. The luminaire is IP67 rated and therefore completely dust- and waterproof for permanent outdoor use, featuring thermally toughened glass on the front and IK07 impact resistance. Periodic cleaning with a soft cloth or a low-pressure water jet is sufficient; the reflector itself is protected behind the glass.
The luminaire itself has no wearing parts. The external drivers in the DRB boxes are separately accessible and can be replaced without disassembling the luminaire; on a high mast, that is the difference between a service call and a crane. The recommended inspection is limited to periodically cleaning the glass and checking the mounting and cable entries.
The specified 103,500 hours is an L90B05 value: at that point, at least 95 percent of the luminaires still deliver at least 90 percent of the original luminous flux. That is a stricter measure than the common L70 and L80 specifications in the market. With continuous use of 24 hours a day, 103,500 hours amounts to well over eleven years. In practice, the LED is rarely the limiting factor; environmental load, temperature, corrosion, and installation quality determine the actual service life.
Provide the surface area, mast height, and surroundings. We determine the size, One, Two, or Three, the cut-off position, the light color, the driver configuration, and the mounting solution, supported by a lighting calculation and a glare assessment.
