The Marlin is designed for applications where a standard worklight falls short, but a larger luminaire such as the Barracuda or Orca not necessary or practical. With 120W of power, around 18,000 lumens and the same robust protection philosophy as the rest of this product family, the Marlin is intended for tough environments where compactness, reliability and functional light must come together.
This luminaire fills the gap between work light and heavier project floodlights. Think of applications on machinery, cranes, service platforms, ships, industrial plants and mobile systems where the build quality of a full heavy-duty luminaire is required, but where size, weight and power must remain controlled.
The Marlin is intended for functional lighting tasks in harsh environments where a compact design is needed, but where the mechanical and technical requirements are higher than for a standard worklight. The luminaire is suitable for applications where robustness, limited installation space, vibration resistance, weather resistance and reliable light output come together.
The Marlin is a logical choice when:
The Marlin is not intended for every lighting task. It is precisely by being clear about this that better advice and a better end result are created.
The Marlin is usually not the right choice for it:
For compact work lighting close to the application.
The link between work lamps and heavy-duty floodlights.
Most powerful compact floodlight with more output and more range.
More efficient floodlight with lowest weight per lumen.
Heaviest floodlight for highest lumen output per housing.
The Marlin is suitable for applications requiring a compact but seriously built floodlight. Not as a universal answer to everything, but as a focused luminaire for tough conditions.
For ship, work deck and functional work areas where moisture, salt, wind and mechanical stresses play a role.
For small crane areas, service platforms, booms, landings and supporting lighting positions where compactness and vibration resistance are important.
For steel, bulk handling, manufacturing and other industrial applications where luminaires must withstand intense and harsh conditions.
For machine zones, service points and technical installations where a robust luminaire is needed with more spread and output than a worklight.

The lens angle determines where the light falls. A narrow 14° spot concentrates the light at a greater distance, while a wide 69° lens illuminates a larger area close to the application. The correct choice depends on mounting height, working area and the desired light level. JEL Products can substantiate this for you with a project-specific light calculation.

In demanding environments, it's not just the product that counts, but the application. When deploying the Marlin, we look at mounting position, vibration load, maintenance access, corrosive load, and the role of the luminaire within the broader system, not just the output.
The correct deployment depends on mounting height, desired light levels, spread and environmental factors. For projects where this needs to be demonstrably substantiated, JEL Products provides a project-specific, tailor-made lighting calculation.
The Marlin is available in several versions: lens angle, voltage, mounting bracket, and coating are tailored to the application. Configuration is based on intended use, not on standard power.
The Piranha is aimed at compact work lighting and local task lighting close to the application, with 8,500 lumens. The Marlin is the step above: more light volume (18,000 lumens), more spread, and intended for larger functional areas on machines, cranes and service platforms.
The Marlin is more compact and lighter-positioned. At 45,000 lumens, the Barracuda offers significantly more output and is intended for heavier or wider lighting tasks where more range or more light volume is needed. The Marlin is the right choice when size, weight and power must be kept in check.
The Orca is intended for the largest cranes, machinery, mining equipment and mobile light towers, with 111,000 lumens and a corresponding size and weight. The Marlin is well below that and is intended for more compact functional areas where a full heavy-duty large luminaire is not necessary or practical.
In most cases, not as primary area lighting. For site lighting and area lighting, where large areas need to be illuminated from high masts, the DarkLicht solutions are more logically and efficiently used.
The correct lens angle depends on mounting height, desired illuminance, surface size, and the nature of the work. There is no universal rule of thumb that adequately determines this. The correct choice is supported by a lighting calculation in a simulation program. JEL Products can perform this calculation for you, tailored to your specific situation. This determines not only the lens angle but also the number of luminaires, their positioning, and the expected illuminance levels in lux.
The Marlin is certified according to CE, ENEC and IEC 60598. CE confirms compliance with the applicable European directives. ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) is a voluntary European product safety certification assessed by an independent third party, going beyond the mandatory CE marking. IEC 60598 is the international standard for luminaires, covering requirements for construction, electrical safety, and thermal behaviour. For specific project requirements or additional standard requirements, JEL Products can assess the certification status per application.
Yes. The Marlin is designed for use in demanding outdoor environments. The luminaire has IP69K protection, a bracket made of 316L stainless steel and an aluminium alloy housing with less than 0.08% copper to minimise galvanic corrosion. The 2-layer titanium-based e-coating provides additional protection against salt, moisture and chemical exposure. This makes the luminaire usable in marine, offshore and industrial environments with intensive corrosive loads.
Yes. The Marlin is IP69K certified, which means the luminaire can withstand high-pressure and steam jet cleaning. This is tested in accordance with the IP69K standard: water jet under high pressure and high temperature from all angles. This makes the luminaire suitable for environments where machines, decks or installations are periodically subjected to intensive cleaning.
No, the Marlin is not ATEX certified at this time. The luminaire is not intended for use in hazardous areas (Zone 1, Zone 2 or similar). For applications where ATEX certification is a requirement, we recommend discussing this in advance so that a suitable solution can be determined.
Copper in aluminium alloys accelerates galvanic corrosion when the aluminium is in contact with stainless steel or seawater. By deliberately keeping the copper content below 0.08%, this corrosion chain is interrupted. Combined with the 316L stainless steel bracket and e-coating, this results in a luminaire that retains its structural integrity even in long-term exposure to salty or corrosive environments. This is a deliberate choice of material, not a standard specification.
Yes. The Marlin is specifically developed for machine-oriented and mobile applications where continuous vibration load is part of the operating environment. Think of cranes, mobile machinery, mining equipment and vehicle-mounted installations. The construction, housing, bracket and internal build are tailored to these load profiles. For specific vibration classes or standard requirements, JEL Products can assess suitability per application.
The Marlin is low-maintenance and requires no periodic product maintenance after installation. There are no consumable parts or replaceable modules. The recommended inspection points are common for luminaires in harsh environments: checking the cable gland for sealing, checking the mounting bolts for torque, and keeping the cooling fins free of accumulation of dust, grease or fouling. Beyond this standard inspection, the luminaire requires no active maintenance intervention.
The Marlin AC supports two voltage ranges. The 90-305VAC range is intended for line-neutral connection, while 180-528VAC is intended for line-to-line connection or high-voltage applications. The driver does not automatically switch between these ranges; the correct version is chosen upon ordering based on installation requirements. If you are unsure about the correct voltage version, we recommend agreeing this in advance.
Yes. The Marlin comes standard with 0-10V dimming, allowing for continuous adjustment of light levels via an external control signal. For applications requiring integration into a DALI network, for example within a building management system, SCADA environment, or integrated lighting network, a DALI version is also available. The appropriate control version will depend on the switching device and the system into which the Marlin is incorporated.
Yes. The Marlin is suitable for OEM applications where the luminaire is supplied as a fixed part of a machine, crane or mobile installation.
