Two certifications by an independent body, two normative frameworks that our calculations comply with, and DarkSky compliance for light-sensitive locations. Below is an explanation of each quality mark: what it is, who assesses it, and what tangible benefits it offers you.
A lighting calculation is not an exact science as long as no uniform calculation method is followed. Two suppliers can present a different result using the same luminaires without either of them lying. Therefore, we conform to the NSVV code of conduct: this makes the plans mutually comparable and allows you to put the offers side by side.
Both certificates are direct downloads, without a form. For specifications or a tender, we can supply them with an accompanying statement upon request.
Not every quality mark is a certificate. Two are independently tested and verifiable, two are normative frameworks that we follow, and one is DarkSky, which is incorporated into both the product and the design. That distinction is stated explicitly here because it determines what you can do with it in a specification.

What we do not have: there is no ATEX or IECEx certification and no class approval from a classification society such as DNV or Lloyd’s. If your specifications require that, we state this in advance; that is cheaper for both parties than halfway through a process.

ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management. It is not about the product, but about the organization behind it: how a request is evaluated, how a deviation is recorded, how a complaint leads to an improvement, and how all of that remains repeatable when someone else is at the table.
The certification was awarded by EBN Certification under number EBN.ISO.QMS.4454, and is periodically reassessed. That latter point is key: it is not a one-time statement but a continuous audit.

VCA stands for Safety, Health and Environment Checklist Contractors. The two stars mean that we have not only been assessed as an executing party, but also on the independent management of larger projects with subcontractors and multiple parties at a single location.
The certificate number is EBN.VCA.4454. For you, this means: preliminary risk assessment, workplace inspections during execution, certified employees, and incident registration. On a terminal, a construction site, or a factory site, this is usually a strict requirement just to be allowed on the premises.
We can perform or supervise installation and commissioning ourselves, including work at height and in operational areas. The certificate is a direct download.

There is no legally prescribed calculation method for a lighting plan. Maintenance factor, calculation grid, reflection values, and measurement plane are freely selectable, and each of those choices shifts the outcome. As a result, two suppliers can show vastly different results using the same luminaire without either of them being untruthful.
The Code of Conduct for Lighting Calculations, developed by the Dutch Foundation for Illumination Engineering together with the Netherlands Lighting Association, records those choices. We have signed it and consistently base our calculations on it.
You will receive the calculation along with the applied parameters, so you can compare it with an offer from another provider. The calculation itself is free of charge.

Our lighting designs are tested against the standard that applies to the situation. For outdoors this is NEN-EN 12464-2, indoors NEN-EN 12464-1, and for sports lighting NEN-EN 12193. For light nuisance we adhere to CIE 150, and for the electrical installation NEN 1010 and NEN 1891. Each of these standards prescribes how much light is required, how evenly distributed it must be, and how much glare is acceptable.
That is not a formality. If an installation deviates from the standard and an accident occurs, the question regarding the design's justification is the first one asked. We therefore record in the lighting plan which standard, which class, and which values have been maintained.
The lighting plan states which standard and which class have been applied, with the calculated values alongside them: NEN-EN 12464-2 for outdoors, 12464-1 for indoors, 12193 for sports, CIE 150 for light nuisance, and NEN 1010 and 1891 for the installation. This enables you to demonstrate that the installation complies.

Light pollution affects local residents, traffic, and wildlife, and is increasingly becoming a factor in permit requirements. Where this is an issue, we recommend full-cut-off fixtures that do not emit light above a specified angle, such as the DarkLicht and DCbright series.
This goes two ways here. In terms of product technology, the luminaires comply with DS1, the strictest category in the DarkSky system; the underlying report is available upon request. In addition, we apply the principle in the design itself, by choosing the light distribution in such a way that nothing extends above the cut-off.
You will receive two items: the DS1 report for the light fixture upon request, and a calculation that takes into account not only the operational zone but also sensitive areas in the surrounding area: residences, roads, and nature reserves. That combination is what you need when applying for a permit or addressing a complaint.

There is no legally prescribed calculation method for a lighting design. Maintenance factor, calculation grid, reflection values, and measurement plane are all four freely selectable, and each of those choices shifts the outcome. Thus, two providers using the same luminaire can show a difference of dozens of percents without anything in it being false.
The NSVV code of conduct establishes those choices. As a result, our calculation can be compared with that of another signatory, allowing you to compare offers side by side rather than choosing based on good faith.

If you do not get a clear answer to these five questions, the plan is not comparable. That is no detail: it determines whether the installation will do what was promised after delivery.
In heavy industry, construction, and the maritime sector, ISO 9001 and VCA** are often entry requirements rather than a bonus. These clients work with us because we meet those requirements and because the lighting calculation is correct.

What we do not do in the process is use a quality mark as a sales argument for something it does not cover. ISO 9001 says something about our processes, VCA** about working safely on location, the NSVV code of conduct about the calculation method. None of the three says anything about the lifespan of a luminaire; for that we refer to quality and warranty.
A certificate has been assessed by an independent body and has a number and a period of validity; ISO 9001 and VCA** are examples of this. No. JEL Products does not have ATEX or IECEx certification, and our fixtures are not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. If your installation requires such certification, we will inform you of this in advance and refer you to a specialized provider, even if that means we lose the contract.
No. There is no type approval from a classification society. If your client or classification society asks for this, please let us know when submitting your request: we will then provide the supporting documentation that is available, such as certification, test reports, and material specifications, and we will also state where that support ends.

No, and that is an important distinction. ISO 9001 is about our processes, VCA** about working safely on site, and the code of conduct about the calculation method.
